Newcomer / Intro A new pilot looking to apprentice to become a better bounty hunter.

Hello Commanders,

I was wondering if someone would be able to show me the ropes when it comes to bounty hunting. I two weeks into this game and haven't really been able to get into the game as much as I wanted to due to classes. My semester is near it's end, and I'm ready to dive into this. I just brought my first ship upgrade; from the sidewinder to the eagle. I've gotten rid of the cargo hold and basic discovery scanner and grabbed a fuel scoop, and an interdictor, added an additional pulse laser to my hardpoint. I'm looking for someone to just show me the ropes on how to be a better hunter, what to expect when hunting your prey etc.

Thanks in advance.
CMDR Volkova.

First off, i would ditch that 3rd pulse laser and get a gimballed multi cannon.

Pulse lasers are good for taking shields down, but once the shields go down, the multi cannon is better for doing damage to the hull.

Second, if youre going to be bounty hunting, a fuel scoop is unnecessary, and that slot can be better used for something else. When bounty hunting, youll mostly be hanging around the same star system. A fuel scoop is only really needed for explorers who will be far away from any docks.

My last piece of advice would be to hunt in RES and Nav Beacons. If you see someone wanted, wait until the feds shoot them first so you have help taking them out.

Thank you for the advice. I'd started my career off as an explorer, and the fuel scoop came in handy for that. I'll add you on Anuranium when I get on line later tonight, or tomorrow. One weird thing I've noticed. I added a laser cannon (I'll have to look at it again, but I think it was the new pulse cannon) and when I target an enemy, and fire for the first time, the pulse lasers will fire automatically. Sounds good when you're focus firing on a single target, but not when you're maneuvering around, and accidentally hitting a non wanted/"police" ship; flagging you to a wanted target. This happened to me last night while I was at a RES. I'm wondering if the cannon is suppose to do that, or is there an option to turn off the automatic firing. I picked up a multi-cannon, but I like having the two laser cannons as well; to eat away the targets shields quicker.

I am no expert, but that sounds like a turret weapon if it is auto firing. There are three different types of weapon you can buy, Fixed (which fire at the aiming point in the centre of your screen), Gimballed (which have some auto tracking ability) and Turrets (which auto fire). Make sure you know which type you have fitted.

If you had purchased a turret weapon make sure it is set to only "fire on target" in the right hand panel under "funktion" I think it's called (I'm not online at the moment so cannot check it for you....)

Will do. I'll be on tonight

where are you located? I will be on tonight and I can travel to LHS 3447, Eravate, etc. if that is your starting point. I will be on from 8pm Central USA time. You can add me to your friend list if you wish, commander Maximus Michael. I can teach you BH, trading, smuggling or we can interdict smugglers and wanted ships. Or we can do a Nav point (most boring) or a RES site.

Im not for weapons that require ammo, it cuts into your profits. And Cr's are precious in the beginning! But, that's just me.

I have to log on to let you know. I'll hop on open around that time. I'll add you onto my friend's list when I get in from work. Look for CMDR Volkova. I'll add the rest of you guys on as well. I plan to make a few thousand credits and try to upgrade to a Viper tonight, so I should have a decent ship for BH.

I see a volkovs, but no Volkova
