Also bear in mind that next week the whole mission system is changing with the 1.3 release. If you are that convinced you can't progress, do something else until then.
I think that ranking up in 1.3 will take longer than it does now. At the moment you can rank up pretty fast if you know what youre doing (only delivery missions, no uss, stock up on food/drugs/nl weapons). Thats why i will try to get to post-commander before 1.3 hits
