Strong Signal Source - AI issue?

So I popped into a SSS last night in my Vulture, first one in a long time. I've heard stories about SSS and how difficult they are. Perhaps this one was an anomaly but it was 2 FDLs against about 6 Vultures and a couple Cobras. It was a great fight that ended with all Vultures and Cobras destroyed, along with 1 FDL and the other badly damaged. But I noticed something strange...

Each of the bounties set on the Vultures was about $75k (using KWS in an Anarchy/None). I was able to eliminate every ship before the FDLs were, but at one point an FDL was destroyed and all of the Vultures that were attacking it just stopped. They didn't respond to me shooting at them, and they didn't respond to the other FDL flying around - it was shooting fish in a barrel for a free $150k. I did open a ticket on it but this isn't the first time I've seen this happen before (I recall instances of this going back to Gamma). Has anyone else experienced this? I'm sure I'm not alone.

Apart from that though, it was an awesome fight. I almost felt bad for the NPC FDL as it was left with 2% hull and his buddy was dead. Plus I netted about $350k in 10 minutes. Does anyone else have any good experiences they could share in relation to USS, WSS, or SSS? I'd love to hear what else people have found.

Nice! I'm starting to think bounty hunters are better off searching for SSS then RES or Nav beacons.

For each of those, you get several of the following: the 8-Vulture gold trap (not sure how to beat this one), Navy convoy which doesn't have any bounties, some minor skirmish with 100k worth of bounties if you are lucky. The majority of these will be Navy convoys.

Had something similar and managed to recreate it once. The gold trap. Hung about for a while and they let me have the gold and I felt off. Another time they fired on me and I held my place and they got tired of little pings on my smiled and let me scoop the gold up, gentle zapping at me once in while.
