Just got into Elite a week ago and decided I'd introduce myself to the community. So far it's been a blast. Crashed my first sidewinder into an M Class star trying to fuel scoop without a fuel scoop. My second one got stuck in a cavity of Cleve Hub as I was trying to dock; then blew up. All the initial growing pains aside, I've had a blast. I've been bent on exploring now. Mostly writing this because I lost track of time whilst hopping towards the center of the galaxy scanning new systems and ended up several thousand lightyears from anyone living. It's lonely, cold and a very long trip back so I decided to immerse myself in the forums to avoid pressing the self destruct sequence. I look forward to coming across you all in game!

Exploration can get a tad tedious - and that is a principle danger. One moment of inattention, say, by forgetting to throttle down in hyperspace, can lead to crashing into a star. I have done this several times.
One thing I find that helps is to listen to music. Radio Sidewinder is a great choice, because they also have in-universe ads and interviews. But I also listen to other stuff as well, mostly sound tracks and stuff like that.

Wow! Thanks for the Radio Sidewinder tip! Never heard of it until now. It makes for a better mood during the hours of scanning
You mean like in GTA? how do you turn the radio on? I usually listen to the default E : D soundtrack (which is also very nice!)
I don't think its quite like GTA, it isn't in game. Just open a browser and it plays through that.

Welcome, that made me laugh-out loud (but in a sympathetic way). The crazy things we do, eh?!
So, always have money to cover ship insurance!
And sell map data often (if you die, you lose it and won't get paid).
Plus, get the best discovery scanner & Detailed Surface Scanner ASAP, make loads more exploring money.
