Power Play...speculation

I'll be surprised if it's not about interacting more meaningfully with either the minor or major (or both) factions to increase their power. With the possible addition of player factions if they've got over the (nonsensical) dislike of any hint of 'executive'. It's such a relatively 'cheap' way of adding value to the game - both in terms of development time and bandwidth.

That makes some of the most sense as a "powerplay" that I've geard so far. Given FD's resistance to, and the 2/3 player base against "traditional" guilds/clans/corps, it would be a way of adding depth and addressing the persistant calls for it's addition without compromising their "vision", as it would allow playeds to actually participate in factions from the perspective of "one man in a spaceship", without actually running them themselves or owning property themselves... two things FD are keen to continue avoiding. It allows players to start playing political characters.

It’s best not to speculate what’s In the patch you’ll only be disappointed. We beta backers have speculated over and over again, what differences the release version have and what each update would contain, only to be disappointed.

So don’t get your hopes up. Just expect what the Devs have said they put in the patch, and if they do add something extra it’s a bonus.

This thread makes for funny reading. It reminds me of Beta and the levels of expectation. What I expect powerplay to be is simply new ways to be able to affect the background sim. You might tbe able to push new buttons that were not there before. Maybe, just maybe you might tbe able to trigger community events or though expansion or a similar mechanic trigger the building of a new station in another system. You might in this way be able to take a hand in the progress and development of a minor faction of your choice. Thus - power play.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up: but there are a couple of things I would like to see, and while this is purely speculative and very hopeful, I don't think it's wildly unrealistic:

- the five extra ships (including a free one for backers/mercenary edition holders)
- changes to major faction membership/reputation/rank/naval ascension etc. to make it more meaningful - e.g. so there would be consequences for a Federal naval pilot taking sides in a Warzone against a Federation faction
- a hangar, home base where you can store ships and outfitting equipment; and perhaps see/admire your ships, outfit them, change paintjobs etc. :) (that would make me so happy)
- passenger missions for Dropship and Orca

I want station skeletons: either abandoned stations which have been stripped down, or the infrastructure that was used when building stations and abandoned. Something to do a bit of close-control flying around to sort out the real pilots.

Dunno what to do with them, of course. Unless it's a race to gather AI tech as part of pop-up goals or something.

If power corrupts, then grab as much as possible, before it affects your ability to grab even more! This is why we have short lives, it is so we can work faster!

But first: Let the waiting games commence-

Last dev update (Dev Update - 16.04.2015) was just removed from News and Update forum. A new one imminent me thinks.
EDIT: Forget that, was looking in the wrong place it seems. :)

I predict that the announcement thread will be swamped by trival questions about the new ship(s) and complaints about unrelated issues.

Other than that, I just don't know.

It will be swamped by desperate people asking about their favourite issue with the game that FD have not commented on, in the hope that since FD as looking at the thread, they may notice, and comment.

They will, of course, continue to be disappointed. The one thing I have learned about FD over the couple of years of this journey is that they are very forthcoming about the things they want to talk about. And tight lipped about everything else.

It was moved to top sticky pages in this part of the forum, still open not locked.

There won't be a dev update today, sadly:

You can save your F5 key - there's no dev update from this week - it's all being rolled up into a bumper newsletter and something else that I can't mention just yet!

Michael

It will all be revealed in a newsletter; I guess tomorrow.

I think it's already been said there's no update this week.

I thought they said they were going to tell us about this core feature this week, last week?

Maybe it's the Xbox timed exclusive thing, wouldn't that be fun.

I'll do this one last time. :p

He didn't say when the newsletter and "something else" (probably a video) will be released and one of the Frontier PR guys tweeted this today:

Oh, today will be great!

BTW, if someone knows Kerrash in person...please kidnap and interogate him...he seem to know whats going to happen... :D

My guesses:
1. bots will better scale with group sizes
2. maybe improved matchmaking
3. different mission texts,
4. maybe quests leading into other quests (first kill bot 1 in USS instance, then go somewhere else and kill bot 2+3 in another USS instance, bring their cargo to station Z )
