Stranded my Vulture :(

Sold my FSD drive a while back and left in another ship. Came back to get my vulture running and there are no Class 4 FSD for sale :( Best range I can get is 3.82 LY which can only get me to 1 other system which also has no FSD for sale.

That FSD drive would have really tied the ship together

Buy a Cobra, then:
- go to a high tech system,
- buy the FSD you desire for your Vulture,
- go to the system where is your Vulture,
- sold your FSD,
- in the shipyard retrieve your Vulture,
- sold your Cobra,
- rebuy the FSD you've just sold for your Vulture.

Ok thanks! looks like I need to go cobra hunting
irony is I was in a hi tech system :(

Buy another ship with the drive in that you need (class 4) fly it to there (or buy it from there if they sell one). Sell the C4 FSD drive and then buy it back in the vulture. Sell the newly bought ship. Not sure what the cheapest C4 ship is, probably a Cobra, your loss will be minimal.

Sell the ship... strip it first though.

Disagree with stripping it.
I did a test yesterday. I removed 1 module from my ship and wrote down the sale price.
I then put the module back on and looked at the sale price again, and it was giving me 10% more from that particular module.

Unless I'm missing something, stripping down a ship before selling seems to give you less money.

I am not sure if this works.

I have found stripping the ship, weapons etc, will lighten it and therefore increase the jump distance.

Arry.

unless somethings changed like the 10% you've noticed. Previously when selling a ship it would sell for 10% less than its total value, the price of the modules included. If you sold all those modules first you got the full 100% value from them meaning the return was much better.

A quick search on the forums can give you better info. Maybe its changed but i guess now its force of habit (im a little out of touch with the game as of late) https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=94703

I made the mistake a while back of selling a ship fully loaded and lost heaps. Isn't it a given that all ships should be stripped before sale?

I thought selling modules/downgrading returned full value?

But then I haven't actually specifically tested this :)

Always strip/downgrade modules before selling!

You will get full price for selling them in outfitting.
You will lose 10% value when selling them in the shipyard (when selling the ship)

Tested it about 3 weeks ago. Unless things have changed since then, this is the way to do it.

I need to test this. Last night I was checking the value of my vulture against a T7, and after trade i had calculated 6.5 million for upgrades, cargo, and insurance. Stripped the vulture, then traded it and had 4.8 million. I just attributed it to my math being wonky (didn't actually pay attention or anything.), but reading this, it seems the mechanics may have changed.

It's common knowledge that ships should be stripped before sale.

But like yourself, I have never actually tested this theory.

Maybe we're just wasting money all this time...

I have. Here:

And you do get more money back if you strip the ship first. Of course the ship sell price goes down, it's got less stuff in it because you already sold/downgraded the insides. But you wind up with more money in the bank in the end.

This isn't what I experienced yesterday.
I don't know the exact figures but I'll just use some arbitrary values to demonstrate what I saw:

Ship = 100,000 credits
Add an upgraded module for 10,000. Value of ship is now = 110,000

When selling the whole thing, I got a quote of 111,000.
When I stripped the module, I got back my 10,000 and the sale price of the ship was 100,000.

What I saw was the shipyard adding the extra 10% of the module to the ship price, not subtracting it.

When I get home from work I'll do another live test and take screenies to show what I'm seeing.
