So..which ship is Elite's Millennium Falcon?

Originally, I Thought it was the Cobra, but the Clipper is the MF. Only issue I see is that it cannot do outposts. It's a smugglers dream. And kicks serious AS* with two C3 beams and two C2 beams. It can handle SSS with minimal issues.

The Clipper is WAY too pretty to be the MF.

You know, based on reliability and the ship's sounds, it could actually be the Hauler.

Whenever I drop out of supercruise and hear that hauler groaning like it sprained something, I can't help but think of the Millenium Falcon's jump drive failing to power up.

No way a Cobra is the size of the Falcon.

Here's a 1:1 replica of the Cobra:

I suspect the Anaconda is much closer... similar in width but longer than the MF. It might be best to think of the MF as a Anaconda-ish sized ship with Cobra-like roll and pitch rates.

Prob is the Falcon is asymmetric and no ships in Elite are asymmetric as they are true to the 1984 Elite which only stored one side of the ship and mirrored it for the other.

The Cobra is larger than the Millenium Falcon, according to these numbers.

For me the Asp is like the Serenity AND the MF of Elite.

I get the cobra is the fastest. But Asp, nicely kitted, you have it ALL!!! You can have the best jump, have a refinery, have a mining laser, have cargo, have multicannons, have pulse lasers, have beam laser, cargo and kill warrant scanners, chaff/point defense, Scanners, and even interdictor drive. Seriously? You can have it all!

Any bigger ship can have that, but automatically loses landing on outposts. And yes, Pythons are bigger, but good luck fitting them like this, and keep a 30 Ly range. So no, Python doesn't do the trick.

Also, Asp might not be the most feared ship in combat, but you know what's funny? Is never regarded as an easy opponent, or a piece of cake, not even for Annies. That's remarkable.

Another feature is that you don't need to be filthy rich to own one. Just a regular joe who worked to own it, cause it is not either acquired within one week of play. (averaging 2-3 hrs a day, I made it after a month!)

Finally, is a big ship in terms of capacity if you go by the scale. Seems like it has at least three decks, with some nice quantity of quarters/rooms for the crews and whatever else needed.

Is for all those traits that I think the Asp might easily compare to the MF and/or Serenity.

It isn't all about dimensions though. Check mass, payload, range etc. There may be a scaling issue between the two franchises but as much as I love the Cobra, it really is one of my favourite ships, the Asp is closer to the specs of the MF. Sorry.

None so far... there next to zero smuggling in this game

You sir are wrong. I'm not a confident smuggler yet but I still do it and I have witnessed plenty of others doing it too.

The falcon is heavily modified carillon corvette, which if I remember right from the x-wing game is a freighter, so I would go with asp.

The Falcon is not a Corellian corvette. That was the ship Princess Leia is in at the start of Episode 4.
The Falcon is a heavily modified YT-1300 freighter as others have said.

I think the Falcon could reasonably considered to be any of the following:
1. Cobra - main thing is that the Cobra can't carry as much
2. Asp - main issue is that it's a bit too slow
3. T-6 - actually a freighter, but would need to be modified beyond what is currently allowed in the game to match the Falcon's performance.

On a semi-related note, it would be cool if the game would let us overclock components at the expense of extra power draw or reliability.

The Asp isn't slow. It's not as fast as the top ships like the Cobra, Clipper, Fer deLance or Viper, but it is at least as fast as the Vulture. 390+ boosts aren't beyond it.

It also has a fantastic jump range.

That is slow relative to the Falcon. It's speed was comparable to fighters.

The Asp is faster than the Eagle (X-Wing? A-Wing?), Sidewinder and as fast as the Vulture (which is probably closest to the TIE Defender). It's slower than the Viper, but it compares well with what could be called a 'fighter'.

Don't forget the Vulture. The Asp is as fast as the Vulture.

From the ED Wiki page:

Vulture

Top Speed 210 m/s
Boost Speed 340 m/s

Asp

Top Speed 250 m/s
Boost Speed 340 m/s

Is the vulture not a fighter?

That's wonderful news. Do you mean smuggling or scooping salvage, stolen goods and bulletin board missions?

When I say smuggling, I'm referring to trading in prohibited goods for profit as an occupation.

Hope to hear from you soon :)
