Whats still missing

For me the thing that is missing from ED is .... ive been trying to put my finger on it for a while now.
One thing that is missing for me is Questing.. You find a bread crumb to follow and work your way to solving the clues all the way to the end. Missions like The Turners Quest in FFE, or obtaining the Alien Gun in Privateer (one of my favorite quests of all time). The recent NVidia competition was a golden opportunity and perfectly suited to a quest, sadly this was not capitalized on as it should have been.

This is the feature that will get my ship back out of space dock, I'm sure it is coming as it will be a must for any Thargoid searching/hunting, if they just drop Thargoids as a community goal i will probably rage quit.

Breadcrums that lead to:
Advanced Weapons
Advanced FSD
Advanced Shields
Trade routes
Minning Locations (you find a canister and inspect its log to find it was filled and location X)
Leads on where the Thargoids may be.
Insert idea here.

PowerPlay has done nothing for me.

On another note, I think FD have painted themselves into a corner with the online requirement. This will mean every update will have to be Free, or they fracture the player base onto servers and cmdrs with the update and servers and cmdrs without the update.

Agreed - we need a large number of multi-stage, quest type missions, to add variety to the 'liberate 4000 prisoners to win this week's goal' missions, that, quite frankly, I don't care about. If all Powerplay adds is a better wrapper around the community goals, then... meh.

Not really, the big updates, i.e. 'landing on planets' and 'walking round things' add additional content without needing major changes to those playing without the updates.

What? How did they back themselves into a corner? You don't make any sense. You're just complaining because you're bored. Well, at least your post makes it sound like you are bored and/or unsatisfied. This game isn't enough for you, and it's just starting to hit you...just what it seems like.

The games universe is online. Anything any player does in Solo, Open, or group, reflects in the game. Also, there will be paid for content, it's almost a guarantee. If you don't by the Expansion (or whatever they call the paid for content) then you don't get what it includes-

For example

If the Expansion comes with 5 new ships, and a section of space is Thargoid's space, and you don't buy it...then you carry on as normal. It isn't that hard to implement, think World of Warcraft and its expansions, if you don't by them, you don't get the new races, or areas, or access to the new zones. This will be similar. They don't need separate servers for CMDRs.

I do not think they totally painted themselves into a corner. For example: walking on the planet. If you do not qualify for it, and do not pay for the expansion, you cannot do planetary landings. Seems simple to me. Of course, they cannot shoot themselves in the foot by giving those who cannot land, a landing type of mission...

Good luck and Happy Hunting!

Check the DDA and look for the thread on NPCs : What we have right now are the Type-1s (mentioned via GalNet news : Emperor etc) and Type-3's (disposable NPCs that are recycled). What we are missing are the Type-2s : the persistent ones that follow you around and, as you said, lay out bread crumbs. These are the ones that when you return call you by your name, and as you become more friendly with them it unlocks new missions & maybe a plot or two.

Maybe they haven't but i never played WoW, It doesn't really bother me as i backed the game at alpha level so all future addons are free, i would hate to see the user base split.

But you are right, i am board and need more in-depth game play to draw me into the world of Elite.

I completed The Turners Quest, and got the Thargon scout ship. Oh boy was that an awesome ship.!

and with the negative cargo bug you could load it up with a 1000 shield generators, then panther clippers with large plasma accelerators only took your shield to 99%, awesome jump range and 4 thargoid green lasers that tore everything up.

Whats still missing

Smuggling prohibited goods for a profit that out performs a to b trade.

I don't mean space bin man picking up salvage, or bizarre missions for toxic waste for glue sniffing pirates or trying to fence stolen goods.

A black market with stuff for sale wouldn't go amiss either.

The apostrophe in the thread title :p

Seriously, I'm going to reserve judgment now until the release of 1.3, from the breadcrumbs thrown out so far this looks like it could turn ED into a whole new game.

-A better wanted system with more persistent bounties (and no accidental bounties)

-Deeper missions with more complex objectives. Mission chains would be nice (ex: you first have a mission to gather intel on some crimelord. Then after completing it you get a mission that requires you to beat up his generals in order to pinpoint his location. Then only after you finished those two missions, you get to know the location of the crimelord and he's so freaking impossible to kill that beating him will be a huge achievement)

-Voice acting in missions, bulletin board and stations.

Those 3 changes would pretty much make the game complete for me.

bang on, also it would be nice if when you docked you got contacted by a stranger offering a special mission, (Like privateer did) and this was all voice acted.
