Please don't give out steam keys

Pretty self explanatory title. I am consistently seeing threads and comments popping up, from people who seem genuinely desperate to be given a steam key for ED. I just don't get it. I have been a steam user for 9 years. I have hundreds of games. I don't need or even particularly want a steam key. Here is why;

1) You don't need steam to play the game in any way.
2) The people who would get a steam key, presumably already have a copy of the game.
3) It adds nothing to the functionality of the game. Nothing.
4) ED don't owe anyone a steam key. No one at all. They said they might, its up to them. They have absolutely no obligation, and as far as i can tell, no reason to give them out.

From these statements, i have tried to understand why anyone truly needs a steam key for a game they already own and have been playing. The only possible reasons i could come up with are;

1) Some people are so unbelievably lazy, they can't be bothered to double click the launcher, click login, and then lick update when a new patch/update goes live. If this is the reason, the mind boggles at new lows in modern gaming.
2) Some people are so shamelessly cheap, they are somehow hoping to get a steam key and "donate" it to someone. Not sure if this is even possible, but it wouldn't surprise me. Realistically, its the only logical reason i can come up with there is so much whining about steam keys at all. The only time i ever see human beings be this pushy and unreasonable is when people with little or no money think they are entitled to something that saves or gives them money.

If i missed any, please by all means, enlighten me as to possible advantages of a steam key.

In conclusion then;

I urge FD, to buck the current trend of pandering to over entitled and spoilt gamers. The type of ones who actively try and look for, and take offense, at any forum or comment box they can find. The ones that go out of their way to interpret anything as a sleight against themselves. Seriously, just turn round to them and say;

"We have looked into giving steam keys to current owners but have decided there is actually no real reason or justification for doing so beyond some few people making out its actually a big deal. Instead we will continue to develop the game instead. Cheers, thanks, goodnight"

Then we can put the issue to bed and stop plaguing the forums with nonsense about something as if they are actually owed it, when the fact is, FD said they might provide them purely out of the goodness of their heart. So I will say again. They have no obligation to do so, and based on the childish whining i have seen about it so far, it annoys me that people have taken it on as if they have paid for a steam key already.

You bought the game as advertised. There was no mention of a steam key.

I can see why you don't want/need one (just like myself).

But why argue against those that want one? How does it hurt you?

In b4 merge.

I think the main reason why people want them are :

1. Easy streaming from steam
2. Ability to write reviews
3. Screenshots etc automatically added (adds jpeg screenshot functionality)

I personally want one but I'll wait and see from the devs, if not I'm not too fussed.

Because i see it everywhere, on other games, people latching onto something as if its a god given right, and quite frankly i just find it frustrating how unreasonable people can be. I just saw another post about it and decided i would comment for a change. I really don't think this thread is any more unreasonable than any of the numerous i have seen saying the opposite. Especially as its all based on something said is only a possibility.

Im all ears for someone to show me the hidden benefits of a steam key, or justification for all the whining about why they haven't been provided yet.

I'd like one if for nothing more than hours in game.
Manually updating is no fun on my crap Internet so auto updates would be cool.

Reason enough?

so you are just whining about whining?
well, i've read your post on other threads. you seem to have a problem with accepting other peoples point of view.
take it easy, opinions will never be shared by everyone else ;)

LOL

OP does not want one, so no one else can have one - great line of reasoning there.
As it happens, I just added a non-steam game, and I'm all good - but some people want to upload pictures and reviews, and you cannot do that unless it is attached to steam properly.
All the other features work, Steam Broadcast, overlay etc... tested those and that is fine for me, but if keys go out, I'll take it

To you it clearly is, and thats cool. However from the nature of your post, i am sensing you aren't one of the people who have been saying they need a steam key, almost as if their life depended on it. I also assume if you didn't get one, your world would not implode?

Also i don't understand how auto updates are any different with regards to internet connection than manual updates? Does it make a difference? Genuine enquiry.

Upload pictures and reviews? So first world reasoning then.

You know people can review the game outside of steam right? Are steam users taking a % of the profit margin from ED or something? Still seen no reasoning why its good other than uploading of screenshots? Ha ha ha.

Come on guys.

Yobuck Im like u. Id like to see how many hours Ive sunk into the game too. Although the devs could just add it to the stats in game.

Its not that i have trouble accepting other peoples view, its that other people's view annoy the hell out of me when they are over indulgent in entitlement or self. So i feel free to express that. Just like people express how they will cry themselves seemingly to sleep if they dont get a steam key for ED.

This is a forum after all, a place to express views yes? I am simply expressing one that is counter to one expressed regularly elsewhere.

I don't want one either, but I could not care less if everyone else in the world was given a free key for the game, makes no impact on me in the slightest. As far as their obligations: they don't care about that at all anyways, look at the record.

#1 I bought the game from there shop because it was not available on steam, HAD I KNOWN IT WAS COMING TO STEAM 2 or 3 weeks after my purchase i would have waited to get it on steam. So feeling a little burned by frontier over this.
Really why i want it on steam is none of your business, besides the obvious point of why and if its not obvious see the first part of my sentence.

#2 I think that people don't understand , weather you have it on steam or not Its not going to auto update in till you launch it. witch is exactly the same way it works now. so all these people taking about auto update are really not in the know and haven't a clue that when they launch it on steam it just open there launcher and from there you login and either get a play button or an update button if there is an update. if this is not how this works i don't mind being corrected but i'm pretty sure its how it works exactly. if someone with a steam key could confirm this functionality it would be nice.

Jimmy OUT!!!

The biggest reasons for me to want a steam key:

Scheduling updates so that they happen when I'm not at home wanting to play (The game update is usually released while I'm at work, this way it'd ALREADY BE UPDATED when I get home)

Tracking hours played

Generally just really liking Steam as a management tool.

I don't actually care if I get one or not, I'm find either way. I certainly understand your annoyance with the propensity of commentary about it but at the same time it does you absolutely no material harm if they decide to give Steam keys to existing users so why does it matter so much to you?
