So, Elite: Dangerous? A few words if I may...

It took me some time until I decide to buy it, to be honest watching trailers of No Man's Sky lead me eventually to Elite: Dangerous. Never heard of the franchise before. So I am not of the die hard fans, I am just a new to the game, and I looove astronomy, scifi and everything related to exploring the universe.

So I bought it and started. I decided to be an explorer. And somewhere between the big desire to explore our own galaxy, and the boring doing "the same thing for hours" thing I realized that this game is empty of content as the space is empty of oxygen or a solid matter for instance. It's just underdeveloped EVE online with massive lack of content, at least in EVE you got all the little tiny details to everything you attempt to do.

So, there are few things that needs to be added urgently, or I think No Man's Sky will kill ED in no time when it releases:

1. Add planetary exploration, planets now feels as little snooker balls, they look massive only until you go near them with your ship and the immersion goes away instantly. Roaming between the stars may look great, but landing on a planet and exploring it, thats the main reason for exploration, isn't it?
2. Add walking in stations, even if it were 5 interiors for all stations we should be able to walk around, interact with NPC's and real player etc.
3. Add some goal for the players (powerplay may do some justice to this anyway). Now the game is just boring, jumping between the stars read the bulletin board, jump again to the next star system, read the bulletin again etc. The mission system just looks unfinished, everything looks unfinished actually.
4. Add more explanations - A mission expample: Bring me 2 slaves, or 2 food, or 2 anything.....BUT, where do I get them, OMG I got 6 hours to do it, where do I get those 2 slaves in order to deliver them, no Idea just abandon it....REALLY? People need to have some direction, this is a HUGE universe, it's year 3301, if you are looking for something you should have means to find it, in 2015 we have google, lol, I dont mean you should look in google for slaves, but anyway.
5. Where are the comets?
6. Where are the aliens (other races)? It's too bold to think there are only humans in this vast galaxy
7. And who am I in this game? When you press new game a screen appears you and your ship in some station, but what I do there, why I am even there, what's my purpose? Oh, sorry, I will read the bulletin board and hopefully find out.

So, I would really like to play it and I would really like to be sunk into the galaxy of ED, but it bores me now, it's just unfinished. Yeah, I see the huge potential the game has, but will it live to our expectations? I hope so, if not at least we will see the planetary exploration this year for sure - in No Man's Sky.

Re: 7, this is a sandbox, not a game with a particular plot the makers had in mind where the protagonist fits in a predetermined way. You make your own identity, not have it be imposed by the game.

This is a feature, not a bug.

It would be easier to hire a few more conjurers, this real time mundane work, is taking a toll on the hairline. ;)

I wouldn't worry too much if I were you. Planetary landings and walking around stations will be coming as paid expansions, the next patch will introduce a metric buttload of new ways for players to influence the galaxy, and there's one particular alien race that will be added suddenly and without warning.

Planetary landing comes with an expansion, yeah I know that. Ok, I don't mind paying for it at all, but since there isn't anything on a video for it so far (except "we have the foundations for it and we will do it"), I think it's in very very early development and it will take at least a year from now, realistically it will take more. I just think it should have come with the game initial realease, we got different standards for games in 2015, compared to 10 or more years before.

The one suggestion I can give that not only is addictive, it'll fuel and keep fueling the exploration side very simply and EFFICIENTLY: add a "shiny" (artifact; trade good; something totally not found otherwise) and rare system out in space and RNG it (can't let it be like Easter eggs, as it'll be exploited).

Ready. Set. Go!

A few answers if I may.
1. It's coming as an expansion.
2. See above.
3. Community goals now and a mission overhaul in 1.3, alternatively check Galnet news for any mission hints or help flip a system like the Lugh example. Set your own goals.
4. You don't need Google just common sense, where do YOU think you would find slaves? There are many factions out there including certain independent anarchy systems 'hint hint' Food you say? There are systems out there that are food bowls of the galaxy.
5. Yes I agree with you, we need a lot more stellar phenomena, I'm sure FDev are fully aware of this.
6. you are YOU in this game not some randomly generated character.

You cite eve as a game with lots of content. I played it when it was older than ed is now. It had less content.

Ed will be about content more than eve. Eve is more focused on the social side. But it's had 10+ years to grow. Of course it has more content now.

Took them 10 years to get there though. And still, doing missions has no effect on the game universe, just to name one tiny thing Elite already does better

4. I remember when warcraft first released. All of the missions were like "go speak to Dumber" but absolutely no indication of where the guy was. It was infuriating at first, but it forced you to explore, to pay attention, to communicate with other players, and was ultimately extremely rewarding when you completed a task.

These days they have a breadcrumb trail to every objective....its soooo boring....follow the dotted line here....now follow the dotted line there....and on....and on......once you can switch your brain off to play, there's really no point in playing anymore.

so, jump into a few systems and check out their markets....once you find slaves, every future slave mission is sorted. Explore...keep notes of when you come across useful stuff so you can return when necessary....its up to you to find what you need.

5. that's a good question - I'd not considered it before. Are they in game already ?

6. the rumour is that they're coming. I've heard some scary stories about a race called the thargoids. I'm not sure that I believe any of them, but I'm currently alone in deep space and heading home....hopefully i won't run into them so far from the protection of the Imperial Navy.

7. I dunno - who are you ? You tell me. I am Commander Tigernuts, Earl of the Empire. I've dabbled in trade, bounty hunting, war bonds, slaving, smuggling, but ultimately I've discovered that I'm an explorer at heart.....at least today....tomorrow, who knows ?

To answer your points

1. Coming in an expansion
2. Coming also in an expansion
3. That's your opinion, not an issue with the game. It's an open galaxy to do what you want. There is no hand holding theme park ride here. You go where you want, not where and when an NPC tells you
4. It's a tough game, but as said, no hand holding here. This isn't WoW where you get a quest marker to point you to the location. You have to research, know the areas. For example, you need farming equipment? Head to an agricultural system. Medicines? Head to a high tech system, Minerals? Go to an extraction system. You need to figure it out for yourself by reading what is there.
5. I agree, it would be nice to see some comets, but the issue with that is relative travel. You are travelling faster than the speed of light, so if there were comets, they'd basically be stationary when you're in supercruise.
6. Soon. If you are familiar with the Elite universe, then you would know about Thargoids. They will be coming in soon.
7. You are nobody. Plain and simple. Again, it's not like every other MMO out there "You are the one to save the world! But you for some reason have lost your memory and skills, so grind your way to the top to become the top".
No, you need to make a name out of yourself. People already have. There are known notorious pirates and groups. Well known bounty hunters and explorers. You are not special in this game unless you do something special.

I think you need to read up a bit on the game, since.

1: Is coming with time, Elite dangerous has a different more old style game development, personally like it more, solid foundation released and then expanded upon it.
2: is also coming
3: You need to make your own goal, though yes power play will help this, but you definitely need to guide yourself.
4: I am quite surprised a lot don't seem to realize this, but 'get this' missions the vast majority of times only request items that the station has on commodity list, and even in the few cases where they do not have it on the list, you can just fly to another station, look on commodity market find the item, and look at right side where it clearly states where the item is imported from. I think the intention is for people to figure this out on their own, but many don't seem to realize this.
5: missing in action currently though according to the AMA there ARE discoverable non celestial things about in space.
6: on their way.
7: who do you want to be? as for starting point, I would say you are a newly qualified member of the pilot federation, and as such fly and define yourself.

I actually found Elite the same way. I was so jazzed for No Man's Sky that I had to find something to sate the desire for galactic exploration as I wait for release. That said, now having played a substantial amount of Elite, I don't really see No Man's Sky and Elite as direct competitors. The experiences will be vastly different. No Man's Sky has no multiplayer and no interest in realism. It also has just one mission: get to the center of the galaxy. Hello Games has also confirmed that there will be zero content updates. I think I'll love No Man's Sky--just like I love Elite--but if what you've listed here are your primary complaints, I think No Man's Sky might disappoint you, as well.

Thanks guys for the replies as they are positive and informative.

Don't get me wrong, I like the game, except the few facts that I pointed out.

About question 1 and 2, yes I know there will be expansions with planetary landings and station interiors to mess around, I just said, that those should have been released with the original game, not as an expansion. Game producers are like politicians nowadays, they promise you this and that, and if I am not wrong, EVE players are still waiting for their "walking around in the stations" patch. Correct me if I am wrong.

Some stated that EVE online and WoW were in a similar state regarding amount of content at the time of initial release. Should that be an excuse for game producers? I don't think so. The year when EVE online was released was I think 2003, WoW 2004, now it is 2015, game developers had all this time to figure out what would be appealing and what would not be for a game to be successful, and waiting for something that may never show up, it's not appealing at all.

The only thing this game is missing is a decent in game starter tutorial. Once you get the basics it takes off.

Also, only boring people get bored.

The only thing that has changed since eve released is hardware. This doesn't mean the limits of human capacity are more advanced. Or that the way games are developed has changed.

And Ed is way more technically impressive than eve was when it launched. But what makes you think running a successful games company has changed?

What you "expect" isn't practical for a project funded by a moderately low kickstarter fund of 1.3m. And Eve was equally modest when it launched.

The difference is eve cost a monthly subscription.

So no, I don't agree FD should have spent another two years making the content for expansions and not get paid for it.
