Quite correct. The thing that is grinding my gears atm is those who have read nutters guide and think they know everything about exploring without giving the process more than a perfunctory thought.
I agree! Nutter's Guide is a good place to start, and Commander Sirocco has been posting some excellent advice on this very forum of late. But mainly I think the best way for new explorers to learn is to simply get out there. Travel a few hundred light years out, see how it goes, and then plan for the next trip.
Ultimately I don't think exploration is that difficult - though there are little tidbits worth knowing - it mainly requires stamina. It can get very repetitive very quickly, and isn't for everyone, but it can very satisfying.
