Ugh...Community Goals and idiots

What is is about combat-related community goals that turns people into knuckle-dragging morons?

I'm in a RES, happily racking up the bounties when two more CMDRs turn up. Fair enough...I keep to my own corner, making sure to avoid any of their targets. About five minutes later, I notice one of them's disappeared...fine, no problem. Carry on. Next thing I know, the Python I'm killing gets rammed at ridiculous speed by the remaining CMDR (also in a Python). Result? My target's dead without any bounty going to either of us.

He does this another three times (despite me trying to avoid his targets, and asking him to stop), the last of which ends up with me clipping him with my laser...and then I've suddenly got 15 Vipers hammering on my shields, so I have to leave. I presume this is exactly what happened to the other CMDR who arrived. All the time, it's radio silence from this at, who plainly just wanted the RES to himself.

So yeah...even when there's a CG which is easy to get a ton of money out of, and where you can more easily do it co-op style by winging up with any CMDRs who turn up, there are still people who enjoy ruining it for everybody else.

Sorry, just having a whinge.

As you were.

...or the private group button. The CG's should never be played in Open. Much more efficient to do them in the private modes. More creds/minute, more enemies to shoot at, less interruptions to ruin you d play time, less lag and jumpy targets. Wins all the way around.

That's the problem - I quite enjoy playing in open with other CMDRs. Except, of course, when they're the kind of selfish ats who enjoy making life difficult for everyone else.

My experience is that any RES is just barely enough to satisfy one player in anything that can kill the big targets relatively swiftly, e.g. a Vulture, Clipper, Python, Anaconda. Any extra player who they do not join a wing with, simply reduces the amount of bounties either player claims within any given time frame.

I greatly prefer forming a wing over competing over kills, but when it gets too crowded I simply switch to Solo.

And trying to get another player killed by flying into their line of fire is just griefing...

Edit: One way to solve this issue would be to massively increase the radius of the RES volume. Currently it spawns a sphere of, say, 20km radius. If that were expanded to, for example, 100km, there would be much more room for players to spread out. Of course it shouldn't be the same number of NPC thinned out over the bigger volume, but that volume filled at the same density as before.

The problem is that drug addicts play this game too, as do people with incredibly poor social skills which blind them completely to the fact that the people they meet in game may actually be really nice people and if they just bothered to try and play nice, they might have found that the game is big enough for all of you to play in.. and even help each other out now and again.

In my mmo days on games like SWG and WoW, you would get areas where people are farming for materials etc.. two scenario's likely would arise.. either i) the person near you would be tagging as many spawns as possible to deny you any possible chance of getting any yourself or ii) would acknowledge your presence, and play nice.. letting you get a fair tag in that you've just ran for and likely may even help you dps the mob while he runs to another mob to tag for him/herself.

In elite dangerous, you meet some really nice people.. may even wing up with them.. but then you get the idiots.. the ats.. who have no regard for other players, and likely their only source of fun is to cause maximum annoyance to all they meet in game. You are no more than an npc to them.. they likely don't even get fazed by your communications stating your annoyance at their actions.

In short, you will never get through to people like that.. but it would be nice if you could exact revenge , and for that, i'd likely dart in front of their gun fire quite a lot to get the security forces onto them if they are about.. sometimes i guess, its just about dropping your standards to match theirs and then watch them have to bug out instead.

I haven't been involved in this community goal so far. I may have to go at hunting now.

Players like that who can't stand sharing a RES in open should just go solo.

I agree with you. I would prefer to play these in Open, as that is my playmode of choice. However, since there is equality of input across the modes, the best way to play in CG's is to avoid Open and play in a group that aligns with the goals or play in Solo. You have more opportunities for scoring in private and no interference between players. If you play in Open there will be players that work against the goal, either for RP reasons, or because they can.

It will be alright. *gives hug*

Messaging someone like that wont work (ats enjoy you being annoyed), just buzz past his nose till he gets the wanted marker. An at will lose it faster than you and open fire though so be ready to evade his python in the roids.

Jerks don't need to be drug addicts nor do they need to have poor social skills. Jerks come in all forms. You do a great disservice to drug addicts & those with poor social skills the world over by claiming that they are the ones responsible for in-game bad behavior.

While I say this in jest, the point is still valid. ;D
