I think our current science is also limited by the elements of our periodic table too.. however this has not stopped new elements being added over time. Our current science has evolved massively over the last 60-70 years in particular, but inventions and discoveries have been made for many hundreds if not thousands of years before that. Computers alone have evolved massively since the miniaturisation of many components and integrated circuitry.
Our science is still learning new things all the time, who knows what the next big propulsion fuel or technology will be, but one thing is for sure, we can not rely on fossil fuels indefinitely, and at some point it will either run out or become so scarce that it will not be viable for the planetary needs. *And that is before you consider space exploration/travel*
For the sake of vanity and fashion you see every single day people ditching their old TV, mobile phone or computer in favour of the 'new model' and when you consider the raw materials that go into making all these devices.. i do often wonder just how much of that material may become scarce also in the future and if modern science makes a big discovery that needs those materials and we've wasted it all now in this century? what then? we will have held ourselves back because of fashion/greed in this century.
So while i find articles like that exciting stuff to read, i still see it as science fiction writing until it becomes confirmed a lot more than just that article.
Until then, i just hope mankind can stop plundering the planet as it is right now, and heck, perhaps even not hunt animals to extinction where there is a possibility that something those animals possess might actuall cure cancer or other disease. We don't tend to stop and think about that now do we?
