Calling all Federation Commanders - We are at War with the Empire

Are YOU "staking the lives of all these people" on information that is no longer current, nor relevant (except from a historical stand-point)?

Cartographic data (and all information there in) is official Frontier lore unless otherwise stated. If there is an error or weird information in cartographic data, that is a statement about Frontier's ability to write lore. It doesn't make it any less authoritative. If you are prepared to say that Frontier lore is not lore, than you completely invalidate all your arguments on history (since that, too, is Frontier lore).

It then degenerates back to the fact that this is a naked, war mongering grab for land in Liaedin because certain Federation players don't like seeing a blue dot in a sea of red. Empire is the defender in this case.

Commander, a group of Federal agents were conducting a peaceful political campaign in Liaedin, a campaign that the people of Liaedin were responsive to. The EIC, without official orders from the Empire, turned up to blockade the system. Days after this the Patron's Principles started a war in Volungu. Now the Federation is calling commanders to respond to these acts of aggression. Those are the facts however you try to spin them.

To all Federation commanders -

Good day to you. My name is CMDR Bloodhawk and I lead a Federation outfit called the Merchant Marines. It's one of the biggest Fed groups in-game right now and we were working on Op. Blossom prior to negotiating a non-aggression pact with the East India Company.

I see that there are some of you who call that surrender. I must take exception to this. The meta-game truth is that Liaedin is likely locked, at least until 1.3. The reason for that is its status is part of lore, as a piece of a bigger Federation-Empire peace treaty. Liaedin is unlikely to flip, regardless of influence, until FD decides the Federation and Empire is to go into full-frontal war. Notice that no faction is war critical despite the HUGE influence shift. Furthermore, all empire groups had caught on to Op. Blossom, even knowing it by name, dramatically reducing its chance of success.

I believe sincerely and absolutely that the peace negotiation was big win for the Federation. We allow the empire to keep Liaedin, but have neutered its significance completely - if it can't be used as a platform for expansion, what use is it? Additionally, we agreed that the factional standings in Liaedin would be set at non-expandable levels, so Patron's Principles couldn't expand even if some rogue commanders tried. Furthermore, we agreed that Crimson would have a significant influence level in Liaedin as the second-most influential faction, so that we could re-activate Blossom if the need arose. This is a HUGE win for us, one which was made possible by brave commanders carrying out Blossom. We have been monitoring the situation post-treaty and are satisfied that this remains unbroken on the empire side.

Volungu is fair game for us Feds. We can push PP down to 0% if we so desired and the EIC and its allies can do nothing about it due to the treaty. They won't participate in the conflict zones. They are locked into the insignifcant island that is Liaedin and must stay there. This is a win.

Federation literally means united. I humbly ask those Federation pilots reading this to unite with us, win the war in Volungu and let the imperials have their worthless piece of system called Liaedin. We have de-clawed de-fanged that lion and its strategic value is lost. Yet real, imminent threats assault us in other systems, where we can desperately use support. Join us in Papercut. Or fight the slavers in one of the myriad star systems where they deign to expand. Let us be Federated.

Community Goal - In Defense of Volungu

My respected Federation Commanders,

We have seen discussions on this board these past days discussing what is happening here in Liaedin and Volungu. We have seen the legitimacy of what we are doing questioned and we have had disputes about who is right and who is wrong.

Commanders, the time for talk is now over, now is the time to fight.

I present to you a new community goal in Volungu called In Defense of Volungu. This is a federation goal to protect the system of Volungu from this Imperial attack which Operation Blossom has been trying to prevent.

I call upon all Federation commanders to come to the aid of the Federation in this defence. Commanders who were signed to the Liaedin peace treaty this does not break your pact. We need all Federation commanders to rally to this cause immediately. This is surely the first step in a sequence of events that will decide this struggle and we must make use of this advantage that we have now.

As I said before Commanders, now is the time to choose your allegiance, now is the time to fight for the honour of the Federation against the might of the Empire.

As a primary party to the treaty I can confirm this is the case. Let us rally around Volungu.

I'm with Bill up above - i don't care who has a treaty with who, I'm just having a blast running stuff past whoever , wherever - East India company, Merchant Marines and anyone else keep up the good work.
And if i have to run away from anyone or kill them (I'm reasonably good at both) then please remember it's not personal - It's just...good business.
Hoist the colors!

Commander BloodHawk,

Thank you for taking the time to write here, I see that your stance is well thought through and I need some time to read this through properly again to give it the justice it deserves.

However commander, time is something I do not have right now. I urgently need your help and that of all Federation groups to defend Volungu. You will see in Volungu that a new Federation community goal has just been launched called In Defense of Volungu.

If we are to keep the Empire locked into Liaedin we must complete this community goal and complete it fast, the consequences of losing this are dire. We have limited time to do this commander and so will need the support of the whole Federation.

edit - my post crossed paths with yours, thank you commander Blood Hawk your assistance is appreciated.

A naked war mongering grab eh?

Who was blocking the landing pad in Jemison refinery while a queue of ships was waiting? Then turned round and got his buddies to shoot me just because I was indicating you were slow off the pad.

Who was the war mongers who fired first on a independent trader who was actually trying to deliver timed IMPERIAL navy messages to Jemison.

The only reason I never fired back because I was in the no fire zone.

If thats how an 'honourable' imperial fights.. then so be it... I'll fight for the federation.

Bill

Guys its official there is now a CG in Volungu. We need more feds here!

I could not agree more commander. For those federation commanders who were on the fence here previously, please come and aid us to complete this community goal to defend the Federation as soon as you are able. It is likely that more community goals will be appearing in this sector over the coming weeks and we now all get to choose the outcome of this story.

The Federation needs you commanders, more so now than ever.

This is Danny Boy calling Broadsword

The Pudding is Hot! I repeat , the pudding is hot!

It's harsh out there guys but winnable. any federation pilots receiving this message should make best speed to the conflict area. The Imperials started this, let's make sure we finish it and defend our women and children. Wing up and go in hard. There is a risk that we may be pushed back, but not if enough commanders join the fray. This one is important, so if you care about the Federation make sure your name joins the list of brave pilots holding back tyranny.

Good luck commanders

You misunderstand, the treaty I refer to (admittedly implied), is not the one between the player groups but as part of the in-game text itself.

http://i.imgur.com/32xRmfZ.jpg

"Once a disputed system" ....... implies it is no longer in dispute.

"Became part of the Empire after the warming of relations between the Empire and the Federation". Effectively, because the Federation and the Empire became friends (which implies a treaty), Liaedin became Empire. By choice, the Federation decided to end their claim to Liaedin, which means the Empire gained it by default.

If someone claims land, and there is no counter-claim, it becomes yours after a reasonable amount of time. Possession is 9/10 of the law as they say (which is esp true in space). This is common law 101.

Your turn.

Ah... I see. You assume that Liaedin joined the Empire by choice after the "warming of relations" between the Federation and the Empire. I kind of think it was more like how East Berlin woke up one morning with a big wall between them and the west.

Well if you want to draw modern-day analogies to a space game (always a perilous undertaking....because of the baggage of politics).

"The West" = Feds
"Russia" = Empre
Germany = Liaedin
Before, Liaedin was divided between Empire and Fed just like Germany was divided between Soviet-friendly and West-friendly. Now, Liaedin sides with the Empire in the same way Germany is associated with "The West".

And if Liaedin were to have a station flipped, it would analogous to breaking up Ukrain into a Western-leaning Kiev-controlled Ukrain and a Eastern-leaning Ukraine.....a messy situation that neither East nor West wants to see. And just as it is unthinkable to think of a divided Ukraine or Germany, it's untenable to allow a station to flip (much less a complete takeover, which Bloodhawk mentioned is most likely IMPOSSIBLE because FD probably locked the system (like with Sol). Why risk so much effort, only for FD to confirm that the system is locked and cannot be flipped?

Regarding the CG, it is extremely interesting that FD decided to do this in Volungu. I am very keen to see where FD is going to take this story. Will PP Volungu merely be squashed? What will happen after you complete tier 1 and above? Will there be followup CG like in Lugh, or will FD move on?

I won't lie to you, the road ahead will be difficult. Expect strong resistance from the Empire who will not give up this fight easily. Imperial groups are already suspicious of what is happening here in Liaedin, they will try to stop you, they will threaten you but you must not falter in the face of this resistance. Our brave agents have faced this terror and looked it in the eye and we now know the face of our enemy. We cannot let these self proclaimed emperors dictate the futures of so many.

Now is the time to choose your allegiance commanders, now is the time to defend the glory of the Federation against the might of the Empire.

The Empire will crush you Feds.. :D We just got a bunch of cheap clippers too ;)
