F63 Condor in Supercruise

First time for me to encounter one of them in SC. I thought they don't have an FSD? Or are their drives just not hyperjump-capable?

Pretty sure they are just not jump capable, not lacking FSDs entirely.
After all you can fit a tiny class 2E FSD to a Type 7 and still super cruise so the FSD for the F63 (and presumable the Imperial Fighter) is possible the class 1s

I hope when these come in they can fit a very small FSD in it.

What do you mean by "when these come in"? They are already in the game, how do you think I could take the screenshot?

I was remembering the old schematic, but you are right, that didn't say "no FSD", it just states "Hyperspace capable: no". Perhaps I deduced from that that the ship doesn't have a FSD and therefore can't enter SC, either. It says "short range craft" and "deployed by capital class vessels" after all, so I thought it couldn't cruise on it's own through a system at FTL speeds.

Well - if the in game lore supports the separation of supercruise and hyperspace, whilst using a common drive tech, then it would make sense to allow the condor to work with in-system travel.

There are 2 ways in which it could get to a war zone site - either by being carried there by a larger ship - and an Anaconda can only carry 1 (I think) - or by supercruising there.

So:

Guarding outposts by launching from those top secret bays in the side of them - yup, I can see that
Guarding stations by launching from docking bays - whilst I can see that, never seen one launch from a small bay. Not to say they don't, but never seen it.
Supporting cap ships by launching from their funky bays - yup can see that
Guarding Anaconda that brought it - yup (not yet implemented, but the in game lore supports small ships being carried by Anaconda)

Probably too small to carry interdiction kit, so unlikely you'll ever by brought down by one in supercruise. Would be interesting to interdict it and scan it to see what modules were installed (i.e. did it have a frameshift drive?)

So - all that remains is "how do they get to locations where they're needed that aren't covered by the above"?

....

*cough* when they are buyable *cough*

What I'd love is if there is a lore friendly way to bring maybe carriers into the game if these fighters are made available to us CMDR's.

They're nippy little things and can be a proper pain when a few of them target you.... They die easily once you get a bead on them, but with fixed weapons they really can chew through your hull whilst you weave about chasing them. Thank goodness for FAOff turns.

At least a few weeks ago, Condors did definitely not have an FSD drive when you checked their subsystems. I have seen them dropping in from supercruise and even jumping away to hyperspace (leaving a high energy wake), though.

Yeah, you are right. I wasn't thinking about how those F63 Condors turned up in the conflict zones without capital ship. But as I said, I already understood that I was mistaken in my initial assumption ;)

Yes, sorry, I should have seen what you mean. But your choice of words when saying "if these fighters are made available to us" is very wise. I seem to recall some developer quote from long ago that stated these short range fighters would not be available to CMDRs, mainly because they can't perform hyperjumps and therefore have very limited game play value to CMDRs who normally travel between systems.

But perhaps my mind just made this up and there actually isn't any such statement by a developer. If someone else remembers more about this I'd really appreciate a corresponding quote!

Edit:

Well, that's interesting! Or is it just a bug?

By far the coolest ship in ED! I wanna sign up and be System Security for a try. I've always said they should loan us ships that are for government jobs.
