Ship building

I liked the idea of supplying materials to Nu for them to discount the Imperial Clipper.

This idea could be taken further for some more gameplay. For the bigger displacement ships, make them "made to order". You pick a station that has the facilities to build that type of ship then you put a deposit down on the ship and then you'd need to contribute resources to the construction of that ship.

Whether it's just ensuring the commodities market is well supplied (the better the supply the quicker it gets built) or you have to deal directly with the shipyard.

Maybe put in a maximum shipbuilding capacity; so the well stocked economies that would naturally complete quickly would get popular - but also potentially jammed up with demand, so a smaller economy where you'd have to put more effort in yourself might jump the queue a bit.

Thoughts?

So what is the difference between this and mining/trading the materials in order to buy the ship, you will be doing the same things and it will take the same amount of time. Also in most manufacturing processes that produce large hi tech items like ships and aircraft the biggest part of the cost it the manufacturing process itself (either labour or the cost of the equipment) so even if you supplied all the raw materials to build say a Vulture I would not expect you to shave off more than 10-15% of the final price.

I like this idea to some extent, would be more realistic that building a new ship takes a long time. I don't think the idea is that ships are built when you buy them from the Shipyard today thou. An improvement here would be to actually see the individual ships in the shipyard (so you can select from a few condas for example, and also see that there is only a few left and so on). Wasn't it like this in the earlier Elite games? Think so.
