ok i have to admit, there may be a problem

I dont like whiners, i hate when people bang on and on about people killing u for no reason. i thought they might be exxaggerating becuase this was not my experience in the game.

however

i just convinced one of my steam friends to try this game. i decided to take him to a res and earn him some good cash tog et him started.

i instructed him to wait outside the RES so that i could go in and check it.becuase if it was a bad RES with low value pirates i could come out and go back in to reset it.

so there he is waiting outside combat rating harmless and sitting in a sidey.

im checking the res when he says to me oh ive been interdicted.

im coming i said and started leaving the res. he says dont worry this has happened before ill just warp off.

ok i think but i continue on toward him just in case.

he starts saying omg im dying. so i pick up the pace. cant find him in space. so i instructing him on how to activate a wingman nav beacon.

he activates it and i activate nav lock. eventually i get pulled out of SC.

and what do i find.

my friend in a harmless sidewinder. is being set upon by a player ina python.

.

im in a python as well, fit for combat. i start to boost towards the enemy python opening fire as i do roughly 3km out.

i dont make it in and time my friend dies.

i was and still am absolutley disgusted.

i chased the enemy python into a nearby res. but he immediatley eneterd sc again. io followed but then got a proximity warning and dropped out of warp and lost him.

my friends and fellow CMDRs this behaviour is simply unacceptable.

there is no challenge no real victory in doing what the enemy CMDR in the python did. its like an adult picking on a child honestly.

it appauls me.

to make matters worse there are more griefers continuously ramming anything that comes out of the station nearby.

Well first off, don't play in open if you don't want to risk pvp.
Second, your friend gets a free sidewinder, and a valuable learning experience that the galaxy isn't to be trusted.
Third, it's a game. Being disgusted and appalled just because some guy attacked your sidewinder friend is a bit much, no?

Eh, people can be jerks but that won't change.

The Wings mechanics allows for the ability to stay pretty tight knit jumping in and out of a RES as long as your buddy has their nav lock on you. Best to stay together next time.

So, your friend got his worthless ship popped sitting outside of a RES.

That's pretty much your whole story huh? Riveting. How bout you act as a better wingman and help keep him safe? How bout he doesn't languish outside of a core system money making spot like a sitting duck?

How bout you suggest better ways for him to get in a better ship quicker? How bout you abandon a few tons of paladium so he can get in a Cobra?

There are options here other than coming on to the forums and complaining that your friend's feelings are hurt.

In Elite Dangerous parlance this is "educating" new players how the game works. You got it all wrong, it's enriching the game play experience of the new players (somehow) and teaches them valuable lessons. After all it's a dangerous galaxy. The new players will learn a lot about solo and group mode. And after a while those helpful players will complain about all those solo and private group players who ruin their game experience by playing solo.

And please don't use the word griefer. It makes these helpful players feel uncomfortable and less powerful. You know, in game it's a dangerous galaxy, but this is the forum and using bad words really hurts their feelings.

Edit: Oh, not fast enough …

All online games are full of scum. The older I get, the more I don't want to game with other gamers (except a select bunch who I know are not scum). That's why I play offline, in solo mode. I still enjoy the game. If I ever play in open I'll stick to cheap ships I don't care about losing.

Look on the bright side though - at least all your friend lost was a Sidewinder which will be replaced for free.

Ah, I got modded for too tongue in cheek.

All I was saying is that no one should ever suggest ED is a chivalrous place, its not. Its cut throat. Better face up to it sooner rather than later.

Games are a playground where we can live out our fantasies. Think of big action films, they all have maniacal villians...well, so does ED.

Its neither good nor bad in any real terms, it just is.

EDIT:
Another way to look at it might be(warning may contain drunk), if you went on a big dipper and it had no dips, you just smoothly went up and up then the ride stopped...you'd complain, right?

Buy a Sidewinder. Write down the amount of cr you have. Spend 1000 cr for upgrades and cargo. Do some missions. You might be surprised how long it takes to pay for a A class sidewinder if you only have 1000 cr to start. It's easy to forget while flying a big ship and earning 1-2 Mcr/h without really trying to hard. The first million is the hardest.
