DIY Head Tracker For A Tenner

Hello there, hoping someone wouldn't mind helping me out with a wee problem! Received the 9150 (built), set it up as per the instructions, all worked fine. One week later, turn on PC for some Elite, and it's stopped working. Nothing has changed AFAIK. Tried to reinstall drivers etc, but it won't connect in the gui. I can re-flash it, but the gyro auto detect thingy doesn't come up. Sadly I seem stuck with a non functioning unit. Has anyone else experienced/solved this? Am using latest drivers/gui.

Only thing before contacting the EDTracker guys would be to try different USB ports and/or different PC to be sure. Does sound ominous though as you do connect and can flash. Don't suppose you can grab a screenshot of your GUI?

Reinstalled windows 7 ultimate. After that the device shows up in windows as edtrackeredtracker2. reinstall driver(code18) it says. tryed all my usb ports on the comp whitout luck. Tryd it on my daughters w8 comp and it works there.

Realy tired of this device now

Hello again, thanks for the replies. Bought a new cable, it worked for a while, then the same thing happened. Not quite sure whats going on. Tried it when I got home with old cable, no joy, plugged in new cable, worked for 5 minutes. Tried opentrack also, but it doesnt seem to work. Sometimes the gui cant find any com ports, not sure what that points to.

Just a quick note to say I ordered a pre-built 9150 with cable. It arrives really quickly - about 2 weeks from initial order to holding it in my sweaty palms. (And I'm not even in the UK).

It took me about a further week until I really felt comfortable using it. For me, the big improvement came when I used it with OpenTrack on the TrackIR protocol. I don't know if ED is more responsive with that protocol, or maybe it's the additional roll axis, but it was at that point that I started feeling at home with it.

Now I "just use it". I caught myself last night just having a glance around the side windows before lifting up from a landing pad. Just like the "old man driver" I am in really life.

Super product. For the price I paid (about £40) I'd say it's really worth it. Adds a new feeling to the game and certainly gives a huge advantage in combat.

Well done to everyone connected with making it happen !

At least we now know the EDTracker is not broken and it's probably a driver fault, one step closer. On my W7 machine, the EDTracker will only work in one particular USB3 port, no other. Not the EDTrackers fault but something to do with the flaky Windows implementation of USB. I've had similar problems with the various USB programmers I use with my multirotor controllers and sensors, have to uninstall one driver to use another, madness.
Don't give up! :)

Opentrack really lets EDTracker shine IMO, just the sheer amount of fine tuning available and the fact you can save a profile that is exclusice to each game means I don't USE EDT without it. I find it incredibly useful when I drop out of SC next to a station, you can keep the slot in your eyeline while manouvering to line up, even if the station is almost 90 degrees to the side. Not tried adding the extra 3DOF an IR camera and LED's gives (does E: D support 6DOF?) but it would be cool to be able to lean forward to look around the window pillar for even better view, works great in DCS A10-C.

Haven't read the whole thread and doubtless it has been mentioned - but facetracknoir is fantastic and if you have a webcam already (and most do) then you'll be up and running in no time. Its not perfect but for virtually free it's brill.

It's not even close to the quality of the ED tracker though.

I have the EDTracker up and running - my first soldering job and it actually works.

I am pairing that with T.Flight Hotas X and am experimenting with bindings for the flightstick and voiceattack - I am a newbie and I would like to get this settled so I can move on to develop the muscle memory.

Most of the posting that share bindings are a little dated - can anyone point me to a good option for a beginner (that uses T.Flight Hotas X and voiceattack)?

Thanks

It was a while since the last I checked this thread. Thanks to the opentrack support I've been able to set my EDTracker for Falcon BMS. Not a great news probably but feel free to add it to the "supported games" list :)

I was wandering though if the extra drifting I'm experiencing is due to a bad calibration or just bad luck with the chip (this is the second, the first iirc was better). Most of all if it's possible to get rid of it completely with the 9150 chip and pcb.

With the 9150 chip, I have no drift whatsoever even over prolonged spells when I can't use it. Think I've only reset it twice since I built it last year other than for flash updates.

As Blairvoyach says, the 9150 is the sure-fire way to get rid of drift over extended periods of time, yes. For the 6050, you need spot-on calibration once up to temperature to get it to acceptable levels. The auto-centering function should keep it to acceptable levels - turn the auto-centering off and there's very little chance of avoiding any drift, I'm afraid.

Ordered the 9150 me too. The only problem could be the mounting since I was used to keep it on the side for *reasons* and I'm afraid it'll be too close to the ear pad and relative magnet. About 1 inch is too close right? :(

Hi guys,

First a big thanks to Rob & the team for your recent help.

I have the older version (not magnetometer) running V2.20.7, when I launch the GUI it forgets I ticked the "enable hot key" button (did I miss a save option somewhere?).

I have to start the GUI a few times before it realised the tracker is connected, sometimes its on the third go, sometimes the sixth, I didn't have these problems with the previous software version.

It is quite possible, if not probable, that it's my PC, with ED for months to get the headphones to work (I leave them plugged in usually) I started the game (sound comes from speakers/moniter) then unplug & plug in the headphones usb, then they would work. Then for a few months I didn't, it was fine, now I have to again, weird. Yesterday when I started the PC I had to unplug & put back the mouse as the led was not lit, looks like a com port issue?, no power?, fine tonight.

Just a guess but if this makes any sense to any techies out there please do let me know what you think, and yes I am aware it may be a chair to keyboard interface / PICNIC problem, please also speak in pigeon techie ;o), I don't read binary or machine code :D.

Thanks
