Newcomer / Intro Equipment I purchase for my ship

So you start out with loaned equipment and purchase upgrades. So I switched out my cargo for a fuel scoop. I want to go back to cargo space. So if I purchase it can I swap back to my fuel scoop when I want to explore again? Or will I have to buy another one again?

The original loaned equipment is lost when you upgrade it. You cannot upgrade it and then get a loan unit to replace the upgrade, you have to buy it.

But not that I own a fuel scoop and cargo space how do I swap back and forth?

You sell them back and buy replacements.
You don't loose money and not all stations have a good selection of stuff to buy so bear that in mind.

You don't lose money by swapping modules around. When you buy a new module the price of the old module is taken off. You may have to hunt around a bit for the stuff you need but high-tech stations tend to have a better selection of gear.

The only time you lose money is when you sell a ship. You get 90% (i think) of the value back including components. So in that scenario, if you have a bunch of expensive weapons and internal compartments you would only get 90% of the value back - which is why people will advise you sell/downgrade your weapons/components first before selling a ship.
