Damage from a engine fire

Damage from an engine fire

As we mentioned at Aplha testing, there are no any damage from an engine fire of another space ship. Neither hull nor shields.

For example, if we are close to some ship, and it's engine is on, the gas engine flow could warm us up or do some damage effect.

IIRC, this effect is present in FFE.

It's could be a gameplay feature.

Just an idea and our observation.

P.S. Maybe this msg must be in a Gameplay branch, but I do not know how to move it.

The suns heat gets to use mainly in the form of infra red radiation and it IS massive, there is nothing in a vacuum to transfer heat like on earth so you lose a LOT of that heat energy transfer, i think if a ship can stand up to starlight on it in space then it will have t be a REALLY big fire to damage it especially as without any oxygen it wouldn't burn for long, even explosions in space have mush smaller shock waves without an atmosphere to travel through.

You'd have to be really close or it would have to be a really big fire, heat does not transfer across a vacuum very well?
I want to recall you that in the first Elite a star could heat ship up and destroy her because of the temperature (CT on panel). And, specially, battle near a star is mentioned in novel "The Dark Wheel".

There is a bit of a difference between flying too close to a star and parking next to a burning ship though......

In general, the question is not just about parking.

For example, in Alpha at combat fighting vs Anaconda, we can be close to her, and hide from lasers behind Anaconda's nozzles. At first, the engine fire as large as Sidewinder, without any hurt, is unbelievable. At second, it's a Dead Zone of Anaconda and it could influence to gameplay.

Aah sorry I misunderstood, language barrier i think.

I thought you meant the heat from an engine that was ON fire, but I now think that you mean the heat and radiation coming from the engine exhaust, yeah that's much more likely to damage a ship i think. :)

If it wasn't we would live on a very cold planet :p

Actually, as I understand it, though stars are very hot, the heat doesnt transmit through space which is in fact extremely cold...Its the photons, neutrino's and other particles which interact with earth which heat the planet up - That and our planets magma like mantle under the surface crust of the planet.
