I'm making my way to SOL and making sure to discover everything along the way. I'm in this one system with three stars and I'm only able to find 2. Is this lack of a good Discovery Scanner or are some of these just very hard to find? I am by no means equipped to explore and first station I come across will get better equipment but this has become a quest now lol. I must find this third sun :) Any pointers would help

most likly its the distance of the star basic scanner only goes 500ls 1000cr vs intermediate 1000ls 500k and advanced infinite 1.5mill.

so unless you are really lucky and go in the right direction you will probably not find that last star.

Try the parallax method.

Supercruise to one direction, and look for a dot (bright star) that moves relative to the rest - there's your star (or one of the system's planets, if it has any).

Zieman thank you! That is how I found the second one. I was going to search more later. I will invest in a new scanner.

If you have bad luck, the third star could be 200,000 ls away (this is quite common). It means that it is hard to notice it with the parallax method.

If the third star is a red dwarf, you can notice it because it is the only red star.

As pointed out sometimes the stars or planets are incredibly far away. Best advice is to try and spot the movement as suggested above, at least until you can buy and advanced scanner!

I would say "most times" to be honest.

In my exploration experience there are a LOT of stars/planets outside the 1000LS range of the intermediate scanner and quite a few very very far away.

Horrible to say out loud for newcomers but an advanced discovery scanner is essential for explorers. Start saving your pennies!

I would say "dont bother" hunting invisible objects. There are some intermediate methods you can use, like head for stations, honking as you go, but generally get on with usefull stuff until you can afford the correct scanners
