Handing data in, one solution

If we were to stick to lore, then transmitting data back to "HQ" is not feasible as it will be slower than "Hyperspacing" back.
(hence why we have to dock to hand data in)

How about a ship that uses 1 to 3 internal compartments to store mini HS capable vessels with the sole purpose of handing our data in ?
(only the data that has already been scanned at the time of launching these mini vessels)

Don't make them cheap,as they are HS capable, and still give them a small chance of being destroyed ?(how about they cost as much as a virgin Cobra?)
That would help the explorers not lose all data if they got destroyed. (like the poor explorers who lost their ship after logging back in the next day, their ships were given back but not their data)

Just a thought, and yes it will seem silly to some of you :)

No, because folk will stay out as long as they've got (a) mini vessels remaining and (b) hull integrity, before they commit hare-kare and negate having to make the journey back.

You are only credited with the info when you dock. Saves you selling data for ten weeks upon your return.

The only solution we need for turning in data is a single button you press that says "turn in ALL the data" when you dock.

Mono, that is a brilliant valid point !!!
Now, can you implement my idea, but without being able to do your exploit ?

Well, the point is, it's silly to make the user wait that long for a database backend to finish running its hamsters. Just let us do other stuff, and send us a message when done. This is not exactly a revolutionary idea...

couldnt agree more, the whole selling data stuff is a pain. Click "do it" and let me get on with the rest of my life. I dont need to know each system i was first to discover, as I know, I have a written log.

This, exactly. There is nothing more deflating that staying out in the black for a month only to return and have to sit in front of that UC screen for three hours.

They need to let us do it in one button push and let us access the data later, to see what we have found, where we have gone, etc.

I'd love to have something that looks like the current Galaxy map, but on the left are selections for the different star classes, different worlds and objects and asteroids that we have found displayed appropriately on the map.

As for remote sending of data, I am not in favor of that. We're explorers: we go out, we scan stuff, we come back.

It's unbelievable that we can't do this and had to previously rely on both a dev and an altruistic forum member to firstly dump the data then secondly put it online and make it searchable.

Yes I do. I have a written log, if I lose a couple of systems out of 2,000 it doesnt bother me.

No you don't. You may well have a reasonable approximation in your log and if that's enough for you then that's fine. But there's still a level of uncertainty on every entry in terms of whether you actually got to tag it.

Maybe one day I'll decide to go back and see what the deal is with volume selling, but so far I've never sold more than 20 systems at a time, and I've not docked since the sell-by-page, or indeed first discovered tags, were introduced.

Aye. A log taken while exploring will contain uncertainty but can be verified if you're so inclined. You still can't already know as you're selling it though.

No there is not. After you sell the Galaxy map will confirm every system for you and show you whether you are the first to discover it, yes?

No. The Cartography screen will tell you if you got first discovered credit on something after you sell it. If you want to look at it on the galaxy map you have to individually look up each system and load the system map.
