Exploration 1/?

Yay a good read! Happy for you commander. I remember my first and all I'll add to everything said so far is that the first is special, yes but the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh....millionth trips are ALL amazing. It never gets boring because, well, there's a whole galaxy to see!

Excellent post OP! I remember way back in the ancient days of yore (also known as January) when I first set out in an Adder in the general direction of Barnard's Loop. It was only a little later, when I was able to afford an ASP that I actually flew through it. (And found an ELW) on the other side for my trouble.

Your post did bring back some memories. I was so nervous when I first realized I was out of range of all stations, that everything depended on my little fuel scoop. And the first one was very little.

I only just got a Clipper and I can see the appeal, its a very cool ship, perfect for noodling around inside the bubble. Though the next time I head out into the deep black I will take my trusty ASP Dread Wolf.

Great post, rep!

I had the same experience this week. I got my Asp fully exploration prepped this weekend and on Sunday night (before Game of Thrones came on) I flew out in the direction of the Orion Nebulae. The Horsehead Nebula is absolutely spectacular. On the way back towards civilized space I also detoured (I went anti-spinward, while you went spinward) and when I found my first unexplored system... what a rush! There was nothing special about it, just gas giants and rocky/icy planets but what a feeling to know that no one had ever been there.

Very good read.

I wouldn't scoop as hot as 80-90% tho, as far as I understand, you do take integrity damage even then, and on real long exploration that is probably a factor to consider.

You don't take damage at all until it reaches 100% (the bar represents how much the hull can handle before degrading).
But I do agree with your point, there is no point in taking more risk than you absolutely must, so stopping and rather coming back for another round when the bar reaches around 70-80% heat is usually what I do.

Just returning from my first run out into the black - in a Vulture of all things - and looking forward to getting back to see what I've found.

Been out for the last 6 weeks or so and can honestly say I've lost count of the undiscovered systems - at least two water worlds and half a dozen terraformables that I remember- and I've only been 1000LY out!

Keep off the beaten tracks, don't move in straight lines for too many systems, avoid the 'shiny' HIPP stars that draw the tourists' eye, don't max jump unless you are trying to get somewhere specific and you'll find some amazing stuff out there :)
