Will I lose the beauty of the game by going DK2 now

I just spent some time with the DK2 for the first time as it came today and I couldn't wait any longer. With the test demo I was amused, but the quality issues were pretty clear. Then I fired up Elite. It just doesn't matter. I do not regret it for even a picosecond. It is every bit as incredible as everyone says.
what about a femtosecond?? lol thats it in a nut shell..10,000 years from now, kids will learn in history class about the day ED launched and coupled with the oculus, changed gaming forever.

Don't plan on buying a Vive until you've at least seen what Oculus will come out with soon thereafter. Indeed there is a lot of buzz around Vive right now because they've published a CV date, but I highly doubt Oculus and its 2 BILLION $$ are going to allow anyone to surpass them... time will tell tho.

I don't know, when I see Vive pre-orders or orders starting, I'm going to be first in line. Sure, if Oculus announces something earlier that's much better and shipping soon after I'd go with them, but they haven't shown much interest or enthusiasm with their PC based kit lately. I'd rather have a Vive (which looks awesome) at the end of 2015 than to wait for Oculus "forever". They seem like they're using their 2 BILLION for things like the Galaxy Gear VR and not for the serious PC gamer market. Look at what John Carmack is concentrating on within Oculus - mobile. That should tell us something.

There's a lot of time left before the end of 2015. Keep in mind that Crescent Bay was already actual hardware long before HTC-Vive even announced anything....
.
I think Oculus is being strategic.
When you're playing Texas Hold'em and you've got a strong hand you keep your mouth shut and your eyes on your cards. You let the kitty rise, and then when its time to show 'em, you clean house.
Realistically, Oculus gains nothing by talking too much right now and they risk informing their competitors on what cards they hold.
.
As you're rightly wondering, if Oculus will support PC gaming then they'll make sure to announce before everyone and their mother has had a chance to sign up for Vive.
In fact, I predict that Oculus will time their announcement very closely with the start of Vive pre-orders. (not the developer order that's happening now)
No doubt, Vive looks great, but I'm not signing up for anything until I hear more about Oculus.
.
One way or the other, I am EXTREMELY excited about the advent of the age of VR in PC gaming.
I already love my DK2, and I can't wait for either a Vive, or CV Rift, or whatever else shows up before next year.

Buy an Eagle and spend half an hour zipping around stations such as Porta (39 Tauri)... you'll forget you're not actually sitting in an eagle cockpit and the purchase of the DK2 will be worthwhile. Next, fight some NPCs and you'll realise that you have a big advantage in that you can follow them far more easily just by looking at them and tracking them with your own head movements. Ensure you spend some time getting your controls sorted out so that you have to resort to the keyboard as little as possible - makes a big difference and IMHO is a reason to buy a joystick with as many buttons as you have fingers at least. I prefer green colour scheme in a Rift and when you can't read something.... look closer at it :) HTH

Can't wait to experience it for myself :) It is meant to arrive sometime today :)

Ok guys thanks for all the posts, it's been highly appreciated. Over the next few days I shall be back in to let you all know what I think, as it is out for delivery today!

Thanks again,

Olmis

Too late as you have already ordered but I would say ORDER IT NOW!!!!

You won't be disappointed.

Quite the opposite of losing the beauty of the game, you won't be able to go back to playing it on a monitor after witnessing it on a DK2. It literally puts you in the cockpit of your ship. The scale of everything comes alive and the ability to look around 1:1 just makes everything so real.

Sure there are rough edges and it can make aspects of the game harder to play but it's totally worth it.

Good luck, hope it turns up today.

I bought a GTX980 and a 4k monitor last year and run it pretty much max'd out and it looks incredible. However, the crisp 4k resolution is no substitute (in my mind) to the feeling of being there I get with the DK2 on. Trust me: Dropping out of SC into a nav beacon above a broiling star and seeing all those other ships about while the sun glare flits across the canopy glass that is just in front of your face(!) is something that can't be adequately explained in written form. Looking around your cockpit and gazing at the distant band of the milky way while loitering in a low planet orbit a dizzying distance below you. Wow. These are the sights that astronauts see. It's not looking at a flat screen. It is sitting inside a cockpit. Buy it.

Thanks Guys, not here yet but hopefully soon. You've really got me excited with what you've been describing :)

I've pretty much been through this > https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=121355 except the sweetFX stuff which I have yet to instal, and the other check list in the forum.
How does system RAM impact on it? I've only got 8GB. I'm pretty hopeful my other main specs will run it ok -

I5 3570k @ 4.6GHZ
GTX 970 Overclocked.

Running ED off a 240GB SSD.

I wear glasses for watching TV/Playing games etc and really hoping this won't be too much of a problem.

Cheers all

8GB Ram is fine.
GPU is the key factor.

Make sure you set your Shadows to Medium, that had the biggest impact to my fps. They still look good on Med anyway.
