Could someone please explain what possessed me to buy and outfit a Type 7 for about 26 million of my hard earned credits? I'm not sure and need someone to help me. Tell me it will all be ok. Please.....

It's a great (if very vulnerable) money maker 
With a little bit of effort you could become a Baron of the Empire and buy an Imperial Clipper, which is faster, prettier and carries more cargo... No sympathy for you .

Spent a week in a type 7, dumped it, got an ASP, worked up my Empire rank and got a clipper. EDIT: See the post above as well. I should really read through all the replies before responding.

It'd be pretty good if only it was a medium size ship. Currently it's a terrible large size trader.
With the -30% sale on Clippers (15.8M which is 2M cheaper than a T7) the only reason to have a T7 is not having the Empire rep.

Because you want to earn money doing some trading I suppose. The T7 is a good earner.
It's a great mid-level bulk trader. The credits will start flowing in once you find a lucrative trade route.
And if you can afford a Clipper - why not get a Python. It's barely more expensive and can land on outposts.
I have a weaponized trader python, it's over 83.7M cr
A similarly fitted (weaponized trader) clipper is 30.5M cr
At least the T7 wasn't built by slaves...
