Unknown Artefacts: if there is no puzzle to solve, should FD come clean and admit it?

A large number of people have spent many hours/days trying to decode the mystery of the Unknown Artefacts, and in particular the sounds they've been emitting, based largely on a comment by Michael Brooks along the lines of "have you tried listening to it?".

It's entirely possible that what Michael meant was simply "isn't it cool, we're really pleased with how weird and alien it sounds" and that currently FD are watching those threads in disbelief, thinking, errr, should we 'fess up.

So, if this were the situation, should they confess?

My theory is they will implement a second phase or hint soon. I suspect that they were either caught off guard with the communities reaction from a simple statement, OR the statement was a hint and they are doing this in piecemeal.. where they wait for the community to hit checkpoints in a greater storyline.

Any new post by Snr FDev staff referring to the UA now falls into a few categories. "keep looking" = we are adding something to the game soon™ ; "LISTEN TO IT" = there is a code; Silence(no posts) = Err, that was it! Cool eh?!

PS there is one more, "the answers you seek are in the game" = well you have done everything with the UA you can now go find the rest of the treats we sowed.

Irrespective of whether they intended all of this investigative work or not, those that are doing it are having fun. If there's nothing at the end of it, the process was still fun for them which would be ended if FD tell them they're making stuff up. If there is, it will be all the more amazing for those working on it.

I for one hope that there is more to discover and that they really did put discernible codes into the sounds. They built a stellar forge so I wouldn't put it past them.

It's a tricky situation. If there isn't anything to find admitting it will, for certain, generate a good deal of negative commentary. They may need to time to actually bring forward something that was planned for later. If there is a message but we need a another clue, again I see negative comments "FD made this too obscure/hard, how are we supposed to solve this, out of touch with players, etc., etc.. "

Rock and a hard place I think.

If FD said exactly that, "isn't it cool, we're really pleased with how weird and alien it sounds", people would immediately start to overanalyze that to bits too.

"Weird" would probably be read as "some place uncommon", then there'd be anagrams made from the word "please" to see if it matches any current system.....oh, and i'm sure someone would derive some binary stuff out of it, just to make sure.

Tinfoil factories probably ran double shifts the last few days.

It's not FD's fault or responsibility to clear anything up, just because everything they say get's utterly turned and twisted beyond sense and reason.

One thing I would say on this point is a lot of people cried "there is no UA" "It won't even be in game yet" "they are sitting laughing at us" etc. some time later.....and admittedly after a while I was starting to think it would never be found. They didn't crack and tell us it WAS there, they waited.

You could presume they will act in exactly the same way this time. I feel the only reason they got into the UA search was that they had put something important in game and nobody had found it.....their cryptic clues gave us a shove in the right direction.

But as many have said that's the whole point of a mystery isn't it? Perhaps there is no point to the UA, perhaps there is. However surely it's the journey as much as the destination.

Regardless of there being anything to work out through audio or anything else, I hope that the communities reaction to this whole saga can have an influence on how they move forward and develop the game. make no mistake our "antics" over all this will be noted and discussed.

So if there's nothing to find this time (which I still suspect there is!) you can bet there will be next time.

I expect a number of things [particularly news stories and galactic political stuff] to ramp up quite quickly in preparation for 1.3. Perhaps this also.

Keep your eyes on the newsfeeds.

If there has been miscommunication due to those posts the yes.
but on the same point it has allowed a large part of the community to come together and genuinely have fun with idea's and theories, that in itself was worth it to me.

I personally believe however that there IS something other then stellar bodies, asteroids, other players out there for us to find....its just a needle in 400billion haystacks XD

These new items are not going to make sense until Powerplay comes out, maybe even long after that. It will make perfect sense when Frontier wants it to make sense. Accept these truths to be self evident.

I've stopped trying to over analyze stuff like this. It makes me unjustifiably frustrated and anxious. Plus I've found I really don't mind reading spoilers from people willing to drive themselves nuts trying to decipher the impossible.

o7 to all of you buffoons out there, honestly.

I hope there is more to it - and they leave it to the community to figure out. I think it adds a whole new dynamic to the experience I've never had with other games. I.e. there is NO WAY one person could figure it out - you need to share your knowledge on what's been found and piece it all together with other CMDRs experiences.
