Formidine Rift... what is it?

After hearing about this rift, I figured my next trip would be to that area.
I wonder though, what kind of jump ranges are you two working with? I'm in an Asp with ~31ly at the moment.
My Asp is around 30ly and is fine up until you reach the void between the perseus arm and the new galactic arm. I am assuming this is the formidine rift and the object is to get to the other side. I have made it half away across but can't continue any further forward as there are no stars in range. Currently I'm back tracking while working my way along, seeking a route.
Indeed. There is absolutely no guarantee.
Drew (author of the book) has posted several cryptic comments in various places hinting at watching Galnet for news and teasers around the rift. But, there is no guarantee that A) it's currently in the game or B) we are looking in the right place. It's totally possible that I am in the middle of what could be Thargoid space when 1.3 is released. Equally I could be 40k ly away. Or they may be there waiting to be discovered.

I was fascinated when I first saw how far the camera could move away from the galaxy in the map and even spent some time looking for outlying systems, or a trail of stars leading to a cluster somewhere. When I heard about the Formidine Rift, I realized it was in that same direction I had been looking, just further out, and it made me want to explore that area even more.
I'll be heading out soon.

Thanks for the add, I looked last night and I'm still 6000 ly from soul and heart nebulas, but I'm on my way so hopefully will catch up with you guys soon. What time zones are you in?
I'm in the UK so normally evenings and weekends.
Er, can I suggest this way? It's a line starting at Reorte towards Riedquat at 100ly steps iin X,Y,Z coordinates. You can even change the step to something else if you want.
Oh, let me know if I got the two starting systems swapped and I'll fix that.

I think you need to change the permissions on that link.
I crossed from Hypheeg to Phrae Hypooe a while back when working on the older maps. I've still got my notes somewhere for the route. The problem is its a several thousand LY journey along the Perseus rim and I was hoping someone would have crossed closer to colonized space by now as it would have knocked quite a few hours off the journey. I was hoping it was possible to transport one of those unknown artifacts across that way but I don't think it is now that Hafnium doesn't work. From what I read in the book its possible they're not Thargoid in origin as the girl talks about something worse than the Thargoids out beyond the rift.
I'll dig out my old notes and update the latest maps in a day or two. If you're still heading that way it may come in handy. Route planner is useless in the interarm voids as you've probably already realised

I think a 31 LY Asp would struggle to get across where the Reorte-Riedquat line crosses it. Its probably meant to be done in an Anaconda maxed out for exploration that way. Further along the arm is no problem for a 30LY Asp though.
Ok I'm in Canada mountain time -7 hrs from bst. Same as you evenings and weekends but my evenings are early morning in UK. I'm sure weekends would work though when I get to your co ordinates
I'm in a 33 ly Asp, I guess I'll find out as I'm heading that way, not much of an astronomer but always keen to learn. On the line from Reorte through Riedquat to Soul Nebula, current position is 6006 ly from Soul nebula, approx 1500ly from Shinrarta Dezhra, at what distance am I in the Perseus arm and what distance do I start across the rift?
Is the Soul Nebula in the rift or on the other side?

If you check post #19 in this thread there's a link to the galactic mapping project. The Formidine Rift is marked on map 09 (2nd Quadrant). Basically the Heart & Soul Nebulae are right on the edge of the Perseus arm. I guessed that the Rift begins after that as the stars start to thin out as you enter the inter-arm void. If that is the Rift (only Drew knows for sure), then it stretches right across to the near fringe of the New Outer arm. I think it also stretches all the way along, for several thousand light years, right along the edge of the Perseus arm toward Hyponia, but again that's just speculation at this point.
