The alpha 'I'm sorry' thread

This thread is for all of those who so confidently predicted that the alpha would be late.

Time to make amends for your naughtiness and apologies. :)

Personally, I do not participate in the Alpha. But Alpha will last longer than expected? And the Beta will be late ?

:D

I imagine everything will be pushed back by at least the same amount of time, otherwise it would be a bit unfair on the people who backed to that level.

Although speaking for myself, I wouldn't mind if Beta release were accelerated as long the game was ready for it. :)

I like how you have instantly turned this apologies thread in to a "I-bet-the-beta-will-be-late" topic. :D

Personally I didn't really think the Alpha would be late. Especially because FD never announced release date. I don't think you can be late for something you have never given a target date for. :)

From the comments, it seems that there is no bug in the Alpha yet. But certainly improvements to be made?

Yes, the only target date that we have is 2014

:)

I always assumed a December ETA !!

I never realised they pledged an exact date and delivered on that day...
That's impressive by any standards. My money is on everything going as planned.....So far I have not seen any bugs, crashes reported on the Alpha.

Which means.....Onward to the Beta :)

I've seen a few posts like this, which may be setting expectations for those in the beta phases (no crashes - onwards to beta etc.). In the interests of tempering some of the enthusiasm a bit..

Actually there are several bugs/issues and several people have had crashes. But luckily there haven't been the number of crashes and issues that most people were expecting for the Alpha.

From what I understand the Alpha will consist of several phases as they roll out features in groups so that they can be tested and balanced in a controlled way. For example, there may be several iterations of a phase (e.g. the combat test) as they change things for balance reasons and add in extra scenarios/modify others to enable people to test specific changes.

Once FD are happy with the alpha then, and only then, will they proceed to beta. As the FD Devs say - the alpha will finish, when the alpha finishes and no sooner. So no set timeframe.. remember the time-frames from the kickstarter were estimates.

Though that does sound to me like a (sensibly) cautious approach, a bit like the minimum system specs for Alpha (which players have run yelling all over with their pants on their heads :)).

FD wont promise us anything, it'd put them in a negative position if something did go wrong, but they've probably got a good idea of expected targets.

I'm sorry no one in the Orlando area has the Alpha and even sorrier that, if they did, they haven't invited me over to play it

And so much the better. If we want a high level game, you have to be patient. Do not forget that the game goes on for years. Personally it is all the environment that I like in ED (forums, shop, newsletter, interviews, alpha, bétas ...). So I'm really not in a hurry.

What balance issue are you talking about? i'm not sure of what you are talking about?

Yes, there have been occasional bugs for particular people, but I don't think anyone has reported a major consistent "bug" as such.

What I have noticed on the alpha test forum is a slow increase in people reporting things which aren't bugs, but which do require fine tuning. eg heat build up in response to velocity rather than engine use per se, the over-sensitivity of mouse steering control and lack of a reasonable central dead-zone for the mouse, some dissatisfaction with the "sparks" graphic when systems damage occurs, etc.

Oh, and re.the OP - I predicted alpha release on Thursday or Friday last week [smug mode on]
