Frontier at E3. Big announcement soon?

So today Frontier have announced MAC release iminant, Powerplay beta in a weeks time, and steam keys for everyone! Pretty good day all round.

But check this snippet from the newsletter.

Finally, we're thrilled to announce Elite: Dangerous will be returning to E3 in Los Angeles this June. The press and industry event is the biggest gaming event of the summer, and we'll be there with announcements of our own.

Announcments at E3 you say, what would those be pray tell. E3 is usually where the flashey PR stuff is announced, there will be news on the Coaster game, the XBOX release date is probably a given, maybe info on next major patch.

Or something even bigger...

My guess too. Reckon landing on planets.

Nah, A range of plastic kitset models. (This started out as a joke, then I thought of how freaking awesome that would be.)

Yeah, I'm also hoping for teasers for the first expansion.

Or it's the simpler explanation that they just want to show up and rub E: D in RSI's face because Star Citizen is still not out.

They have their hands full with Powerplay, Mac and Xbox... I don't think they'd have time for a DLC yet. Maybe a port to the Playstation? With the Cobra Engine being cross-platform, they might squeeze that in.
In any case, planetary landing would be a later DLC than boarding ships and firs-person-view. To me, they seem preliminaries for doing planetary landing.

I want one.
Take my money!

It might be moving in first person, but I doubt planetary landings.
Planetary landings are planned. FPS movement not (at least now). So ... if something like expansion is to be announced, it will def be atmospheric movement.

Walking about in your ship, perhaps. I doubt planetary landing will precede it.
I think the team mentioned rocky planets and moons come first. I don't see much sense in walking around as the first DLC. Speculations!

The way they worded it makes me think that they won't be concerning Elite.

It's very possible, new IP, new partner arrangements etc.

However, Elite: Dangerous is their highest profile product, and is likely to get the lions share of the PR.

D'you have a link?
OK, didn't find it, sorry. But in this dev diary, DB talks about exploring gas giants, and they worked on procedurally generating clouds more than 2 years ago. A man can dream.

The sneak peek is after the 4 minute mark.

Ya'll are just over thinking things a bit. The simplest explanation is often times the correct one.

Thargoids!

Oh come on now, you knew someone was going to say it, I just got it over with early so we could get on with speculating about more interesting things. :D

I approve of running gags.
