Space truckin' the most dangerous occupation in ED

Little funny story of my misfortune this evening. Hop ya'll get a chuckle out of it!

Day 1- Spent most of it bouncing my 'sidey off of stations and trying to make sense of how to find the door on the rotating multi-faceted death star thing.
Day 2- Got an eagle, found a RES started raking in those CR! had a few close calls but 'twas all good.
day 4- Another upgrade Got the viper AWESOME SHIP!
from this point on I've been almost purely a bounty hunter aside for taking a few missions to progress major faction rank.

now.. a month an a half later I decide to spend the night plying the trucker's trade. I load up the T6 with 104T (sorry guys i like shields!). 1.8m Profits for the evening thus far.. I even got pretty good at speed docking and shooting the letterbox in boost

On my umpteenth run of the night i must have gotten a bit complacent. I failed to do my normal 'free look' scan before moving off my pad. I line up the letter box, pull in my gear, 4 pips to engines, set full power, and hit the boosters... suddenly impact! in my haste to speed up my turn around time at stations i failed to notice the T9 lifting off from the next pad. glancing off the top of it and doing a perfect 10point face plant into the wall just above the slot. Hull integrity compromised! Eject! Eject! Eject!

From tutorial till now. this is my first fatality. not even died to PvP Yet (tho did retreat from most fights after getting outclassed)

Sounds like you're having fun. :)

4 days to a Viper. I must have spent weeks to get there. They sure have upped the income.
indeed. It's so easy to get caught up in min-maxing your income per hour and forget to just play the game. Think i may stick an adder together this weekend and go off into the darkness :)

Very much looking forward to getting my Type 9! :p

Unlucky OP.

The lesson is don't go hell for leather to get either in or out of the stations, but I guess you're aware of that now....

The Adder is a ship I've only tested out once I could afford better ships, so I've never really done much with it. But oh man, it is a beauty and handles like a dream. The universe just seems more "real" through her visor-like canopy. It just looks more 3-D to me and it doesn't hurt that the interior design looks the most like a shuttle from a certain popular 2nd generation sci-fi show from the 90s.

BWHAHAHAHAHA! My friend lost 2 ships in similar fashion....
Come on guys, you know Capt Kirk would approve of departure boost inside space station! ;)
I used to call him an idiot for boosting out of the station like that.... I used to say things like, 'One of these days another ship will be coming IN as you do that....'... and you know what, one day when I could see it was clear, I had to try it! ><
Now I do it all the time and laugh about what Captain Kirk would think ;)

You can speed up alot of things.... But >don't< afterburn inside Stations :D

Oh, thanks for that information.

Recently I wanted to exit a station with my Anaconda. 404 t cargo. Slowly rising above the pad, landing gear retracted. Then I wanted to apply a little bit of forward trust, just enough to get into the blue zone. AND:

I hit the booster.

The Anaconda can be surprisingly fast if you do something stupid. I managed to get through the slot, but then decided to dock the ship again and stop playing for the day.
Never fly without insurance or tired.

Them space cows come out of nowhere.
i cut off a viper once in mine.
the type 9 is a big ship can't see everywhere at once.

I have only 1 death so far, and that's by a T9 as well.
-
Flying (pronounced killing Wanted ships) in a Nav Beacon and decided to take a rest on top of 1 in a Cobra. That was fun I thought. The next day I was in another Nav Beacon with a mate who plays it, he's killing in his Cobra and a clean T9 shows up, time to showboat and show him how cool this is...I boosted towards it and the T9 boosts, I boost again and the T9 slows and moves, I splat my ship over the back of the T9. But my mate said it WAS quite impressively spectacular.

Lol! the lesson is Discipline dear boy, discipline.
That's one thing I like about this game. Just as you think you got it mastered it kicks you in the butt.

See, this is why I love my Vulture. My usual trick is full-throttle with landing gear up approaching the slot, only to find a couple of ships in the way and then emergency-pirouetting sideways through the slot to get around them. Adds a bit of excitement to an otherwise dull activity.

Mind you, when I had the UA in my hold, I was the most careful pilot ever. I don't think I ever went over 50 in the station.

This!

I bought a T9 recently do do some serious trading. The ship is a good earner, but afaiac the fun factor is below zero, until I realized it was my own fault.
So yesterday I decided to kit the T9 out with weapons, shield cells and chaff and instead of running away for every pirate I decided to confront them. I even go into USS to kill pirates. Those beam turrets are far more effective than some people on the forums wanted me to believe.

I have to say it is a blast. I have lots of fun again and earn good credits with trading too.

+1 mate.
The game was quickly turning into grinding may backside off so i could earn enough CR to buy stuff to help me grind faster!? that gets old fast so i've been trying to break up my farming sessions with other stuff just for funsies.. take a random mission, run some contraband... try working on empire rank, etc.

It's pretty sad that the most dangerous thing to a trader is the trader himself.

The original elite had pirates and brigands openly attack you in Anarchy systems and you actually had to DEFEND your cargo. Now all the baddies hang out in a RES or Unknown Signal Source and as long as you stay out of there, you can waltz into any system whistling in the dark. The only thing dangerous to a trader anymore is either another player or the trader himself.

Like in the original Dark Wheel Novel, the space just outside a station should be "a wretched hive of scum and villiany" Here's where someone can scan your cargo, track your wake and ambush you at your destination system while you wait for a REAL FSD cooldown instead of being able to just supercruise away....

LOL, I have also accidentally crashed face first into station wall in my T6 but thankfully I was barely alive (3% hull, atmospheric breach) and managed to land safely. Space is vast but there is no room for error I guess, hahah :D
