What happened to the boxed upgrade for digital buyers?

Some time back, I remember seeing an option on the Official Store to purchase a boxed pack if you bought the game online as a download. I think it was £10 or something. Now, all I see is a DVD Full Edition for £45 that has another code.

I purchased on Steam, so got an activation code and download, but would like to have a box to go with it. Anyone have any idea why that was removed or if it could come back?

Wondering exactly the same thing

I purchased the Premium Beta package last year, and then the £10 upgrade from the store when it became available. Mine is sat here still wrapped, so maybe you should check with support ?

I doubt you're missing anything, apparently even the Premium backers edition box has an install disc that installs the launcher and that downloads and installs the game.
Is the disc the OP is asking about different? Could someone confirm?

nobody buys it for that reason, do they ?
Strictly speaking, I backed the game at the start of the kickstarter to get the game made. Things like Alpha access, Beta access, premium boxed edition, galaxy map ... these things are a bonus, and I appreciate Frontier letting me have them, but I backed to get the game made, not for the goodies.

Currently a boxed edition does not add anything. It is just an installer on a cd/dvd with some plastic wrapped around it :).

If the game is in a more complete state with all major stuff implemented, including important expansions like planetary landings, walking around in ships and stations, EVA and perhaps even FPA I would be willing to buy a boxed edition with 4 DVD, a thick paper manual and a star map for a considerable amount of money. Ideally (in my imagination) by then FD would have reconsidered implementing an offline version too.

In such a finished state I'd easily pay 200 bucks for a cool boxed edition, on top of what I already paid, without thinking twice. It would be well worth it for a complete galaxy I can lose myself in.
