Killed FOR NO REASON in Diso!

<snip>
I smile and pay my 900k credits insurance bill.
I could have played this out in Solo and been virtually guaranteed that my trade run would have ended in success. I think this was actually more fun. I'll stick to Open.

Fair enough - good for you! Though, I take it that this is your first time at being killed for no reason? It certainly won't be the last! Just make sure you have enough for insurance, EVERY time you fly, otherwise you won't feel so magnanimous the next time. Getting killed often enough can turn into a downward spiral of dwindling funds to cover insurance and maybe having to downsize you current ride. But, yeah, being interdicted by another human gets your heart going like little else in this game and it certainly isn't all bad, no matter what the outcome is.

This is the way it should be, if it were not for cargo loss and insurance it would be happening all the time and the game would be more fun for everyone. Cargo loss and insurance stifle risk taking and make a boring game overall.

Probably not CODE. They usually hang about in gangs. I did see a lone Cobra (name starting with P) attack a T7 last night. Probably a newbie who thinks ED is just a shooter game.

That was probably us! The other CMDR's name did in fact start with a "P" and he was in a Cobra and me in a T7!

I had the same exact problem. (except I didn't die) I was in my T-7 with a full hold of harvesters, nearly at the station. I got interdicted my someone. I rolled my eyes and thought, "Here we go again," because I was interdicted 3 times in a row the day before. I did some fancy flying and evaded the interdiction. Half a second later, I was interdicted again, and I evaded again. Guess what happened next, a third interdiction. This time I wasn't so lucky, I was pulled out of supercruise and discovered who was attacking me. As some of you may have guessed, it was CODE. The guy who pulled me out was in an Anaconda, and he was quickly joined by a python AND a FDL. I immediately put four to engines and two to shields and floored it. I then put in a course for another system, but had to cancel because I was interdicted AGAIN. After that, I finally got away. Just the fun of open play.

Report of the patrol at Diso grid

According to the unrestricted submarine warfare directive set by the High Command, I engaged and sunk 25 armed or unarmed merchant ships. During the 2 hours long patrol, the U-Cobra destroyed ~13.000 GRT and dispensed ~4000 tons of merchant cargo.
Armament consisted of dual 88 anti-shipping guns loaded with 30 pcs high velocity armor piercing rounds and dual 50mm cannons loaded with 105 pcs high explosive rounds. No torpedoes deployed. Both free and assisted aim went for the hull.
Only merchant targets at or over 200 tons were engaged. Prize rules were not observed.

Some warships patrolled the grid. 1 battleship, 1 heavy cruiser, 3 light cruisers and 2 monitors were spotted. No fast destroyers were present. All interception attempts were evaded using speed. 45.2 knots were reached during emergency dive.
No merchant ship with dedicated escort and no convoys.

At least 15 merchant ships survived the attack:
- 1 due exceptional maneuvering
- 1 due to act of chivalry
- 6 due to very high waves
- 8+ due to low quality interception guidance system

Battle damage was sustained when a Type 9 was rammed head on. The leak was fixed at the port and the patrol resumed shortly.

I consider the patrol a moderate success.

The experimental U-Cobra was decommissioned after the patrol. Attached are the technical specifications:

+Rep, great story! I headed over to Diso last Friday, and tried to bring my friend in a Vulture for some protection... but he had to work early Sat morning, and had to bail. I was flying my new (and mostly stock) Python, so I was expecting (and kinda hoping) for some player interaction... but the most interaction I had was taking my turn going in/out of the letter box.

Had a couple close scrapes evading other Pythons and Annacondas inside the letterbox - apparently, we can't all agree on which side of the road to stay on :D

...Also twice by other pirates wanting cargo (really, Water Purifiers?) ...

Towards the end, there was pretty slim pickings for cargo - I was pleasantly surprised that the high demand for Water Purifiers was still netting a little over 900 per tonne. Much better than the 300 for the Crop Harvesters!

The Riedquat - Diso trade route netted 1024/tons on water purifiers all through the event and ~170 back on natural fibers and 111 on leathers.
I shipped ~2500+ tons in my Blockade Runner Cobra and ended in the top 40%. From launch to launch, a complete round trip took 8.5 mins.

PENDRA!
Thanks for the fun game. You downed me last night - CMDR Fionn Mac Cumhaill. Glad to see you on the forum.

Still waiting for the first "you should play in Mobius" comment. I don't understand why people take it so personally when another player shoots you down. Is it ever really that big of a deal? The times I've been killed by other players have always been the most memorable events in the game for me and that, to me, makes each of them worth it (as was the one time I actually contributed to another player's death in 'Betapocalype' the night before the Gamma release).

Why would someone say that when the OP obviously enjoyed the event. Mobius group are for those that do not enjoy the game that way. We are all different.

+1 rep to OP just for being a good sport.

Why? Because some people don't read the whole post and just comment based on their own bias. Honestly... I might like Mobius. I still prefer Open but have had a few encounters in CZs that have forced me into Solo or Group. Chasing the same CMDR for 40 minutes out of a conflict zone trying to make credits for a CG can be frustrating.

I wasn't expecting the OPs ending and its good to hear - its a game after all. Yet you know I must say I think FDev needs to come up with something so that more feel okay about trading in Open. Back in the DDA one of the proposals was to be able to hire AI wingmen and I think this is something worth developing coz I think the temptation for most traders is to do it in solo or private group.

I want them to be there in Open, it certainly spices up the experience, but who just wants to be a sitting duck all the time.

I think a bit more RL injection into Trading ships would be really helpful. If you are a herbivore on the African plains, what do you have to defend you? Speed. Armour. Defensive weaponry. A combo of some of these.

Let's face it, a T6/7 etc. on the African plain would be a overweight ball of blubber on tiny legs with 2 carefully rounded (to avoid potential harm) stubs of horn.

Suggestion: Fast trading ships, with minimal hull / no shields. Slow trading ships with specialist defensive weapons and serious armour. I don't mean all-rounders, but dedicated trading ships that are not actually beached whales. My 2p for the day.

Good story, OP. Well played with a good attitude. +rep for sticking with open play. I am a pirate myself...You encountered a simple murderer, not a pirate. They are just as rampant. And I am OK with them, as long as they choose a proper combat ship to tassle with. Not no T7. PM me the cobra pilots name if you get the chance. I have some "canno..." err.. "presents" for him.

Looks a few posts up and your answer shall be found there.

Glad you enjoyed it. Let's see if you're still smiling when it's 2 million cr of cargo.

Are you sure you're glad he enjoyed it? From your snide second sentence I'm guessing not. Are you sure you're not desperate to have everyone who plays in Open have a miserable time?

I find it curious that FD didn't develop some of the traders to be more resilient. It's not like their armament could be used to turn them into tank ships if they were given more armor or shields. Even a T9 pales in comparison to the defensive capabilities of ships that cost less and are armed more.

Bring torpedoes instead. Lots of them. I so wanted to do an old style torpedo attack:

And something to set the mood.

FD made traders more resilient by adding wings and escorts. 3 T6s with turrets and a Sidey would make me reconsider my attack run.

FD made 2 fast transports:
The Imperial clipper, that can carry 248 tons and boost up to 418.
The Cobra, that can carry 60 tons and boost up to 442.
Good luck catching up to them in a Python, Vulture or Viper. The Cobra is practically invulnerable as a transport. The Clipper can be suspectible to a group of Cobras.

I do agree that the trade ships are useless flying death traps. One ended up in front of me after the interdiction. I pressed the fire button and he was dead in 2 secs (2 x 2 railgun hits). 2 freakin secs. He didn't even have time to press the boost button completely. High powered robotic turrets may help.
Or a beam reflecting shield, so you would need to maneuver to evade your own beam attacks. Something exotic from Lakon.
