T7 to Python Question

So I have enough for a stock T7 a full cargo load and a few rebuys, my main goal atm is to use this to grind to a Python. Now I'm only a cheif petty officer in the Federation but I somehow have the Vega permit (according to other threads its supposed to unlock at ensign rank) and can start doing Vegan Slime whatever rare trade runs ( and yes I've been to Vega they let me in). So my question is, should I grind a few more million for some upgrades first, or will the stock T7 be sufficient to start me on my way? I'm looking to make 200 million credits for a fully kitted python with a few rebuys.

I found you needed to upgrade power plant as got hot when charging frameshift drive. But my was only about 20 mill ish I kept it as simplet as possible. That was awhile ago.

Yep, A-rate the FSD, and at least C-rate the power plant, so you can chain-jump more easily. However, it would be better to use the T7 to pay for an entry level trade-fit Python, and then use that to trade up to bigger things- it's a better trade than the T7 (more cargo space, can use medium pads, still has decent jump range).

Ah thank you guys, soon as my hotel fixes their internet problem, ill res grind a bit more for those 2 upgrades. So maybe only use the T7 till 100mil Cr then go with the python from there?

I tried out the T7 today for the CG at Diso. I agree with the post above. I had fitted only D-class components except for the FSD and Power Distributor (A). Heat upon jumping was barely manageable, if you boost into a FSD jump you will get your heat close to 100%.

Nevertheless, it behaves well enough in terms of maneuverability. Mailslots are not difficult. Overall speed was slow, so I boosted continuously. 216 tons cargo space is quite an advantage.

Since after the CG I was able to afford the Python, I went straight from the T7 into the Python cockpit. It flies so much more responsively than the T7, quite a joy, even with E components. Since I could'nt afford insurance I went back into the hangar. I will at least need 10 million to kit it out with all class D components and the A FSD. It will be used as a trader. Don't forget at least 5 million insurance (I did).

Nah, a simple trading Python comes in under 70M:

You can pull the scoop out and replace it with more cargo space, it's just there because I am paranoid. I have added a buttload of shields because it's a jungle out there, but you can drop to a 3A and get 387.04 MJ with three boosters, and get yet more cargo in. There's bags of spare power because I hate gimping power plants. As it stands, that's a solid trader, and has enough power to run a bunch of large gimballed burst lasers if you get bored, for example. It won't overheat in normal use.

Heck, do it within the next week, and you can knock another 7M or so off the price, if you buy it in Zaonce, while the 16% CG discount is still running- bought at a discount, it will have cheaper insurance rebuy too.

Remember to keep enough slack money for cargo and rebuy when upgrading, of course :)

Ah thank you, yea i was thinking of 100 mil so I could have a few cargo and insurance rebuys, ideally I'd like to have 5x the insurance with the option to rebut the cargo once or twice, that way if I get really unlucky I can just jump back into my ASP or Vulture to make the needed Cr again.

Hah, we'll never see you posting an insurance QQ thread, then, excellent!

(...and you're welcome. Shockingly sensible questions, there.)

OP - You are me 4 weeks ago! When i began playing ED I went from Sidewinder to Adder, to Cobra, to ASP - then got myself a type 7 (not in 4 weeks obviously). Definitely upgrade the FSD, max out the cargo - strip off shields and weapons. Might be worth putting some Chaff and Point defense too. Every time I got interdicted by an NPC i could just run away, and every time i got interdicted by a player, they didnt ever attack me. I just cut engines and gave them some of my cargo. most of them were gentleman pirates.

I set my sight on the Python, went nuts spamming trade routes making ~500k round trips (3 jumps) and 2 days ago, bought my Python.

She's beautfull.

Be warned - I got a bit excited and impatient, and could only afford a stock Python with no rebuys. This was an error, as the FSD was so weak i could only make tiny trade routes to get my credits back up. A bit of grinding and Ive upgraded the FSD, fully maxed out the cargo (Which is more than the T7 BTW) and im away again.

Good luck

I upgraded from T7 to Python on the cheap. I did save up enough to buy it at Shinrarta Dezhra w/ the discount, D-Grade everything, and have about 1.5x rebuy. I then scooted back to my home base and started trading (carefully) to the point where I had 2+ times the rebuy and as soon as I had enough for the A-Grade FSD I pulled the trigger.
.
I now have a freight hauling Python with big teeth. I have weapons, shields, 240 Ton cargo, and still have ~20 LY jump range (unloaded). (still mostly D-Grade but that Class 7 PP is all you need for normal mid powered weapons)
.
Just remember with a rig like this, run first when interdicted. So far (3 weeks), I've gotten away numerous times and have yet to be forced into a fight. I made enough to rebuy a Vulture (which I sold to buy the Python) and now I alternate hauling for big bucks; and stalking prey in my Vulture.
.
Enjoy

I concur. Use the T7 simply as a stepping stone to trade-only python. As soon as you can afford it... make the plunge. You will make a lot more money in they python. Then... simply trade to save up for your combat loadout and go from there. If you hurry.. I believe the discount for the python is still on. Not sure though. I bought a stock one just to store it the other day. Discount = cheaper ship + cheaper rebuy forever, as long as you don't sell it.

Thank you everyone! My hotel finally fixed its internet problems and I can finally get back on! I had forgotten I had wracked a decent amount of CBs for Quivira and managed to get a nice bonus 6 mil so I can buy my t7 the 2 mentioned upgrades and have the insurance/cargo rebuys I'd prefer to have.

Now having only done Combat, Exploring, and (yes I'm serious) Mining, with just trading with what little cargo space I had in my combat ships between searching for RES sites, I'm at a bit of a loss on the best way to go about trading. I've been reading through the forums and see people talking about making 1k-2k profit per ton on their trade runs, and I've jumped through about 15ish systems so far looking at all the markets and the closest I'm currently finding is something like Beer or Grain being sold at >100 CR with the Galactic Average being just under 250ish CR and I'm aware that systems with high demand for said commodities will shell out more, but from the couple systems I've checked this is only adding about another 100-150cr profit per ton.

Now I am not going to use a trading tool (feels like cheating a bit to me, my personal opinion, I do NOT look down on others who use these) but I don't have a problem with asking the community for some tips. I'm just wondering what commodities it is I should be looking for to make even close to those kind of profits (1k-2k Cr) and if anyone is feeling particularly generous what areas I should investigate to find some good runs. (besides the Silk Road, I am aware of the route, but I'm trying to stay out of that area atm, I 99% play open and only go to solo if I'm unable to farm in CZs during CGs, and I'll stay around for hours trying to get some bonds before I switch :D )

Please note, I'm only doing this to make a Python purchase, I do not plan on trading for any long length of time, I actually will probably never reach Elite rank trader, I just wanted to do it this time for 2 reasons.
1. To hopefully make the credits needed before the sale ends in Zoance
2. To not burn myself out on BH'ing and going into CZs by the time I do get a python and realize I have no desire to jump right back into combat with my new ship.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ok, quick update heres the current fittings I was able to afford with around 5 mil in reserve. I've Christened her Bessie the Space Cow.

spacecow.jpg

I will upgrade the fsd after I get more funds, I'm currently sitting at a high tech site with some decent High Demand in Gold, Silver, Palladium, Platinum compared to the Galactic Average. And some good buying prices on Robotics and Auto Fabricators that they have a High Supply of.

I've started checking the refinery and extraction systems nearby, but they all seem to only sell minerals, anyone know where theres a system that sells gold, silver, palladium, platinum?

Side Note: I might put shields back on her, she gets stuck soo easily in the mail slot, had 3 close calls already and I havent even had her an hour yet :D (I'm enjoying the challenge though)

First off; I'm not a great trader (so take what I say with a grain of salt); and I don't use trading tools.
.
There are many varieties of this method but, for example find a high tech/refinery system with large population that is one or two jumps to a system that is an Extraction system (preferrably extraction only). Buy Performance Enhancers at the High Tech system, fly to the extraction system and sell everything (you should get around 1000 credit profit per ton). Buy Gold/Platinum and fly back to the High Tech system and sell it for around 1000 credits/ton.
.
currently Perf. Enhancers go for ~6100 credits/ton; Gold is normally around 9000-9200/ton in the systems I frequent.
.
Until you get enough credits to buy a whole ship of Enhancers (or progenator cells) and Gold without digging into your rebuy money (2x rebuy), you may need to mix in some lower cost goods for a few trips that still get you a 400 - 600 credit profit/ton. [bioreducing lichen >> coltan/gallium/indite << ... for example)
.
Basically you'll need 2 or 3 million credits above your rebuy cost x2, to be able to afford filling your cargo holds with the high cost stuff at low risk. At that point the money will roll in at ~400,000 to 500,000 credits per round trip (with a 200 ton cargo capacity T7).
.
overall, remember that each system type needs a few specific items they will pay a premium for. You just have to figure out which 2, 3 or 4 systems that are clustered together needs what the other systems can provide. I've found high tech/refinery - extraction - industrial systems work well together.
.
just one way to go about it ... good luck
.
One point about Extraction systems; many don't have stations and your T7 requires large pads which outposts don't have (yet). There are some that do; Zarece is one that I trade at. There are a few High Tech systems a few jumps away from it. The station in zarece is ~2200 Ls from arrival so that one takes a little time in SC but its not that bad considering you need that large pad. (when you get the Python, they land on medium pads so you'll have more systems to choose from)
.
I really liked the T7 but the Python is much better in many ways.

I just did the T7 to Python jump thanks to the latest CG rewards I made and the added Discount. One thing that helped me ALOT was the fact I could just stick my 5A FSD from my T7 on my new Python with no extra cost(rebought it) saved me a few Million and made it much easier to get back to my home Station with it.

Congratulations!
Now please make sure you always have enough credits to cover rebuy cost... ;)

My rule of thumb (as stated in a previous post on here) I always have at least 5x the rebuy for insurance, (also why I did not upgrade the FSD to A, it would have left me with only 2 rebuys if I did.)

And yes thank you guys, I did not change the filters on my map and missed a few extraction systems nearby (D'OH!) Appreciate it all!

Heya, just got my T7 for the same purpose, I have basically the same setup as you except I went with all D rated equipment for better jump range except A2 power plant, and A5 FSD which I just bought after 6 trade runs, dropped fuel tank to 16 tons, im not jumping much so lose the weight for jump range. I named her the Pork Chop Xpress she's slow but she always delivers.

One last update, I found a one jump (13ly) >1400ls between both stations sc travel, with a round trip profit of 397k Cr, is that good for what I'm currently running? (I'm looking to max, definitely do not want to do this for too long, I can see myself getting bored within a few days of this).

Actually, I just realized I have no idea how much longer the sale is going on for, it looks like a few more days from the posts in reading, can anyone confirm please? I don't want to miss it lol.
