Was looking into exploration and came across Nutter's video: How to find and avoid Dangerous Binary systems.
And I'm like what in the "act of procreation" ???

I have seen people in multiple posts talk about throttling down to zero before making a jump but I have not been able to do this. Everytime I try the system tells me to throttle up before jump and I am unable to throttle down once the jump countdown has started. Is there some trick that I am missing? I have blundered into one binary star system so far and just hit the hotkey I have to zero my throttle and was able to get out of there with minimal heat damage, but it would be nice to already be at zero throttle when I come out of jump.believe it or not, I had one of those recently as well - looked darn near exact to your video.
Didn't really stress since I've learned on the forums to decrease your throttle when you enter frameshift (FSD), to avoid situations of issue.
But yeah, it did unnerve me a little
Guess what I'm really unnerved about is jumping into a system and actually landing in a star, based on the path you took to reach the system and the position of the star when u get there. Is that possible??

Thanks CMDR I will have to give this a shot later when I login. Thanks also to TiberiuS, I was referring to the time just before you Hyperspace to a new system. What they're referring to is to zero your throttle during the 4...3...2...1... countdown, though to be honest, you can 0 it out any time during the "Hyperspace load screen"
The video was not even close. You can really go BBQ if you jump in the wrong system, the wrong angle. Being thrown out of SC inbetween two close up stars.
This situation is definitely Top1 of the 'What explorers fear most' list. Some call it the '2-Star Samba'.
To prevent this, always take a close look at the next system you jump to in the galaxy map. if there are 2 stars listed and you can really only see one in the map (realsitic view). Better not jump there. It can go awry.![]()
Just simply beautiful thanks for recording. I love binary systems and it's amazing warping in on these especially as it's a nice "oh cr#p" moment and I think gives one a true sense of movement through vast galactic giants.
I don't think it's possible to hyperjump into a star in the game, you can't even fly into one on purpose nor can you fly into planets as of yet....
besides when you hyper jump you are not actually ocupying the same spacetime as where the star is but instead some kind of subspace and only exist in the same spacetime continium as the star once you fully have exited the subspace hyperjump... So in theory you could fly straight through a star in subspace and exit on the other side without it having any affect on you ship until exitting on the other side....
at least that's how I choose to explain why you cant fly into a star when hyper jumping in the game...
For the "didn't know what to do" part: if your ship starts to heat up quickly, drop out of SC and let yout ship cool down. Then you can plan a escape rout without hast. To avoid overheating when spooling up the jumpdrive pop a heatsink and/or deactivate shields (that will lower your base temp and shields are useless against heat)

Meh, this is a close jump - screenshot taken about 2 seconds after arrival, but it was back when 100% heat was still within safety margins.

Don't let the possibility of a close binary interfere with your normal activity. They are extremely rare, and of those, the dangerous ones that require you to drop out of Sc are even rarer. Most of the time, dropping to sc will end up doing more damage than just powering out.
On my last trip of 4500 systems, I took heat damage once, and that was 1 or 2 points. It would have been more if I wasn't running very cold, and it would have been more if I entered the system at 0%. My advice for close binaries is stay calm, and get the hell out of there
