Newcomer / Intro So um, it's possible to warp into a star??

believe it or not, I had one of those recently as well - looked darn near exact to your video.
Didn't really stress since I've learned on the forums to decrease your throttle when you enter frameshift (FSD), to avoid situations of issue.

But yeah, it did unnerve me a little ;)

Guess what I'm really unnerved about is jumping into a system and actually landing in a star, based on the path you took to reach the system and the position of the star when u get there. Is that possible??

The video was not even close. You can really go BBQ if you jump in the wrong system, the wrong angle. Being thrown out of SC inbetween two close up stars.

This situation is definitely Top1 of the 'What explorers fear most' list. Some call it the '2-Star Samba'. ;)
To prevent this, always take a close look at the next system you jump to in the galaxy map. if there are 2 stars listed and you can really only see one in the map (realsitic view). Better not jump there. It can go awry. :D

Just simply beautiful thanks for recording. I love binary systems and it's amazing warping in on these especially as it's a nice "oh cr#p" moment and I think gives one a true sense of movement through vast galactic giants.

Funny, this also happened to me the other day. Binary system.

It was a lot closer for me though as my fuel scoop engaged as I skimmed the second star before coming to a close between the two with my heat temps rising. Time to get out of there...

There's a binary system on one end of one of my trade routes.
ive exited the jump inside of one of the stars and came to a stop between the two of them.
this has happened several times now, has yet to kill me or even drop me out of supercruise.
mini heart attack each time.

I don't think it's possible to hyperjump into a star in the game, you can't even fly into one on purpose nor can you fly into planets as of yet....

besides when you hyper jump you are not actually ocupying the same spacetime as where the star is but instead some kind of subspace and only exist in the same spacetime continium as the star once you fully have exited the subspace hyperjump... So in theory you could fly straight through a star in subspace and exit on the other side without it having any affect on you ship until exitting on the other side....

at least that's how I choose to explain why you cant fly into a star when hyper jumping in the game...

For the "didn't know what to do" part: if your ship starts to heat up quickly, drop out of SC and let yout ship cool down. Then you can plan a escape rout without hast. To avoid overheating when spooling up the jumpdrive pop a heatsink and/or deactivate shields (that will lower your base temp and shields are useless against heat)

I have seen people in multiple posts talk about throttling down to zero before making a jump but I have not been able to do this. Everytime I try the system tells me to throttle up before jump and I am unable to throttle down once the jump countdown has started. Is there some trick that I am missing? I have blundered into one binary star system so far and just hit the hotkey I have to zero my throttle and was able to get out of there with minimal heat damage, but it would be nice to already be at zero throttle when I come out of jump.

You sure it was 'throttle to zero' when jumping? You have to put the throttle to zero when you want to drop out of SuperCruise without taking damage (you have to be slower than 1000Mm/s).

What they're referring to is to zero your throttle during the 4...3...2...1... countdown, though to be honest, you can 0 it out any time during the "Hyperspace load screen"
Thanks CMDR I will have to give this a shot later when I login. Thanks also to TiberiuS, I was referring to the time just before you Hyperspace to a new system.

After a couple of close calls I've learned to pack heatsinks and pay more attention to stars in the galaxy map. This was just one of those things I thought wouldn't happen until it happened. My carelessness

Gotta love the scale of this game. I can't wait until we can land on planets. I could explore forever :)

That answer is so convoluted and counter-intuitive it's probably right :p

Thanks for the info! But what I meant at that point was that it just shocked me; it happened so fast, and on a fifty-something-inch TV screen combined with surround sound you just feel those near misses. At first, I was sure I was flying into the star. When I dropped at the nav beacon in one piece I just couldn't believe it. My mind was just stuck on it for a moment, which is why I was kind of wandering aimlessly in the vid instead of taking immediate action to save my skin. Then when I started looking for the star I skimmed, I couldn't find it, when all I had to do was a discovery scan. All in all, it was an awesome experience :D

Yeah you should definitely be able to throttle to zero at any time after the countdown begins. Throttle down on countdown.

I've jumped to thousands of systems and never had a problem. If you take a close look at every system you're jumping to, you spend most of your time looking at systems and not scanning them.

The closest binaries I've been to have been at least a few ls away from each other.

Meh, this is a close jump - screenshot taken about 2 seconds after arrival, but it was back when 100% heat was still within safety margins.

I lived :)

Don't let the possibility of a close binary interfere with your normal activity. They are extremely rare, and of those, the dangerous ones that require you to drop out of Sc are even rarer. Most of the time, dropping to sc will end up doing more damage than just powering out.

On my last trip of 4500 systems, I took heat damage once, and that was 1 or 2 points. It would have been more if I wasn't running very cold, and it would have been more if I entered the system at 0%. My advice for close binaries is stay calm, and get the hell out of there

Epic. And leave it to hellhawk to actually find the gates of hell :p

Great advice.

Don't get too overwhelmed like I did. Stay focused and live. I was lucky. You may not be.

This guy manages to jump through a star....he survived though.
