Good and bad news Commanders, as some of you know from previous posts I've been staying in a hotel while waiting on a house to sign, unfortunately the deal has fallen through and I'm back on a 30 day minimum wait. Thankfully, one of my coworkers is offering me a room at his place for a month, saving me the expense of staying at this hotel, sadly, he does not have internet so I will be unable to play. I will still be on the forums through my phone, but thats about it.

I do want to apologize to a few commanders (you know who you are) that I've stated I'll help in learning and progressing through the game, I'll offer whatever support I can through the forums and private messages, and will get back on as soon as possible.

Have some extra fun for me all, and remember Always fly with insurance!

Here is a suggest...

As a thank you, why not offer to arrange and pay for a years worth of internet. As you have discovered, deals fall through and there is no certainty you will be moving again in 30 days.

If the phone network is good there you might be able to get a mifi.

But I remember being told they're rubbish in the States, so maybe not. Until recently, I had no Internet at my place and played ED on a mifi pay as you go. 5-7mbit down and over 1mbit up. Stable, too.

It set me back £25 a month for 7.5gb. Enough for ED except when a major update was released.

Have you looked into it?

+1 for this. I have friends who live in the country who ONLY use a dongle with a good 3G router for Internet. They only got about 250K on ADSL!!
Something like this:

plus a dongle. I think they use Three.

I set it up for them, and was astounded by how fast and stable it was. Like Ydiss, about 6Mbit average downstream, but the ping was only in the mid-30s too, so definitely OK for ED in Solo.

That said my brother doesn't have internet and swears he never will.
He's 39 but he got off the technology drive when he saw me and my brother messing around programming on an amstrad pcw-8somethingorother :)

That was 1985, the year the funk died.
He was 9 and his name was Jim, now we call him Dim :D

In case the op is staying with him, I too would suggest trying the mifi to connect.

If you get 3 coverage at your friends, get a payg sim from 3. Buy a all in one 15 add on for £15. This will give you unlimited internet access through your phone for a month.

Not exactly lightning fast connection, but has been successfully used to play in solo.

Moving house is always stressful and never goes according to plan :( Hope you get sorted soon.

Yup. Mine is Three. It's as good as you can get if you don't have DSL or Fibre Optic.

And it broadcasts wifi, too.

Just depends where you are, though.

Sorry for not answering back, I've been researching some of these options, + what's available here in the area ( I'm in central Florida USA) at first I tried the phone dongle option, but my service provider does not offer this as an option at the time, as for the mifi personal hotspot, the expense would be the same as if I ordered an internet package with sub par speeds.

I called up all the providers in the area and finally found a DSL/phone package with 10mbs for 30$ a month, no contract. Just an initial fee of 178$ to install, rent the router, activation fee, other stuff cable companies make up for more $$ (lol) I will be going this route hopefully within a week or 2 as i get my funds back up ( I'm a server at olive garden, not the best paying job, but not horrible either).

So there is hope! I want to thank you all for the suggestions and support, this has been a very stressful time for me and I doubt I would have kept my sanity if it wasn't for ED and the awesome community. You guys rock!

Now to just get through the withdrawal till I can get the net set up here :D

If you have unlimited data you could tether your phone to your computer. I'd be interested to how much data solo would use anyway. Or If you have a laptop you could always go somewhere and steal wifi :D

What about asking your new neighbours if you could share their internet by offering to pay their monthly rate for as long as you're there? Cheaper than $178 bucks installation fee. Longshot but you never know
