So I'm kinda curious as to whether there's a good explanation for this. I was convinced it must have been some form of cheating because I'd never seen anything like this before.
.
I was flying out of George Lucas, towards a RES in my new, but fairly well-equipped Python, when I was interdicted. I submitted and it was an elite wanted CMDR in a Fer-de-Lance. MY first reaction was "yes, let's take out this criminal," but I quickly decided that was probably a bad move, so made a run for it. Of course the FdL outpaced me, mass locked me and opened fire, so I chanced tune again and decided to have at them. I deployed my hardpoints and suddenly my heat levels jumped to 150% and my ship started to fry. I had no idea what was going on, so held off on doing anything to try and let the ship cool. But instead it just continued to heat up until it hit 198%. There was <nothing> all I could do.
.
Then three other FdLs dropped in and seemed to just float around and watch the show. Being that I'd never had a situation like this happen before, I concluded that it must be some form of cheating, as I've heard people mention that there are ways to give yourself infinite shields or unlimited ammo. I don't know if its also possible to do something to cause a targeted ship to massively overheat, but I couldn't think of another explanation.
.
Not wanting to die to a possible cheater, I quit the game as fast as I could. I don't like the idea of combat-logging, but I couldn't think of any way what I was experiencing was normal game mechanics and I was damned if I was losing my ship to a cheater.
.
So does anyone know if what I experienced is actually a normal game mechanic? Is there a way to superheat an enemy target? Did I unfairly combat-log against a superior commander? Or was I the victim of something a bit more sinister?
