Wanted for self-harm..

Trying out my new Asp by hunting criminals at the Potitri Nav Beacon just recently, I hit a wanted Dropship at point blank range with a Dumbfire missile... and got a warning that I had performed assault on.. myself! Sure enough, I was wanted... I proceeded to finish off the dropship, and hightail it out of there with a horde of law enforcement vipers on my six.. and did the usual "go to outpost to pay it off routine..
While I was waiting for docking permission I chatted a bit with another player there about my misfortune.. talking to people is a nice change from traversing the interstellar blackness...
So.. has this self-harm crime happened to others? Or is it a strange and rare occurence?

Report it as a bug. I am surprised this is still possible, I remember this way back in the Alpha when gimballed weapons on the Cobra wing mounts would sometimes swivel too far upward and shoot your own hull, causing assault bounties for hurting yourself; they fixed that, but apparently only the firing arc of the of the weapon hardpoints there, not the self-assault-bounty.

Looks like if I accidentally hit a ship while doing a RES in solo, I'll be logging out for seven days. Way to make me not play the game, FD.

That's quite a misfeature! I guess the devs who wrote the code assigning bounties for friendly fire never considered the possibility of damaging your own ship via friendly fire. Therefore, they never wrote a check for that, and when you damaged your own clean ship you got assigned a bounty.

FD: Please fix this before the Crime Update? Getting a 7 day bounty for shooting yourself would suck.
