If you want something more sturdy, the magical geek cure-all Sugru is absolutely phenomenal for things like this. I also put some on top of a couple of the switches to let me find them quickly by feel.

You mean mold that to the lock bar? I'd be concerned it may be to much diameter, have you tried this with an X55?
Nope, I mean just shove a bit in the middle, rather than Blu-Tak. It's a lot stronger, won't fall off, but isn't permanent (and is easy to remove if needed). You just shove it in like Blu-Tak, and let it harden overnight. It's magic stuff.
I have some on my switch caps to let me find the SC/hyperspace and silent running/heatsink switches quickly by feel. I haven't bothered with any on the throttle levers yet, as it's not a huge problem. For once, my slightly clumsy oversized hands are an advantage, as they span both halves liberally, so it feels quite stable. However, I wouldn't hesitate to do so if it started bothering me, as it won't harm a thing.

x52 all day. Build quality is better and you don't really need dual throttle the x55 provides. Both use magnetic hall sensors however the x55 does provide a more "realistic" resistance feel for those looking for 1g aerospace simulations.
If both were the same price, I'd probably still chose the x52 for space sim games.

Noob question, never owned a HOTAS: How does the throttle work in conjunction with preset thruster percentages?
For example: What happens if your throttle is set to around 100%, and you press (or use voice attack to press) the hotkey for full stop (0%)?
Does the hotkey override the throttle position, and if so, what happens when you move the throttle? If you pull it back slightly, will the 0% then be overridden by the throttle and set to 95% (or so)?

I'm not entirely happy with my X52 Pro, after 3 months of light use it is already faulty, a friend of mine has had his 6 months and his is practically unusable already. The build quality is atrocious for a device that costs considerably over £100.
I should qualify that this seems to apply to the latest run of them. Madcatz now builds X52s, although they still list as 'Saitek' and they seem to be using cheap components. If you're lucky enough to find an old actual Saitek build, get it.

I have the original style x52 standard version.
Compared to my MS Sidewinder Force Feedback the x52 felt like it had a massive natural dead zone, like 5-10 degrees.
Do the x52 pro/x55 have a similar deadzone?
Too bad Sidewinder came back but don't make sticks anymore, their sticks were top notch back in the day.

I used both. My two cents :
X52 : Really easy to configure for Elite. Not too expensive. Works fine. Mine broke after 8 months though.
X55 : Needs a little tweaking (but maybe because I was used to the X52). Worked fine, but mine broke after a month. Saitek support changed it for a new one very quickly without complaining though. Maybe it was just bad luck.
Overall, I'd pick the X52 because it is really cheap and works fine.

I've had and used my x-55 since release. I have had to take it apart once but no other issues. Great stick.
Probably bad luck, I've put probably 150+ hours on the X55 now in the last month and a half and it's still going strong.
Yeah I think X55 can be a bit hit and miss. You get a good one and it will last forever. I am about 500hrs using mine and it is great!
At the start it needed lubrication due to the poor QC.
Never tried a X-52... Bought a used X-55. He had been using it with ED. I was a bit worried that the stick would be all messed up but it works fantastic.
The twist however is kinda wierd as it gives of a little cracking sound when I twist it very slowly. But, it works.
And I only had ghosting issues one time. That was because I hadn't screwed it on tightly enough. Never needed a powered USB hub.

I am about to buy my first joystick for this game. Trying to read up on which one is the best to go for. I like a stick that gives resistance so the stick does not flap around losing all control.
