Ships New ships?

I have looked around and can't find any thing very conclusive. I am wondering when they might be adding new ships? Most importantly to me the Fed Corvette, if it's known when this ship will be coming to ED I'll keep raising my Fed rank if it's not tho I might just switch to Empire for the clipper.

Where would they dock that thing? Ether they would need to build docking hatches/platforms on the outside of the current space stations, or they would need to introduce a new class of stations that could accommodate such a behemoth.

yeah the corvette was talked on a newsletter if i recall, and had only 1 sketch... but as what i seen it seemed too massive, kinda like the federal dreadnought there was in the alpha.... well it looked about the same size..

well compared to a clipper or anaconda , the corvette seemed even bigger and stronger. anyways, im not sure if it would fit throught stations.... they would need complete new designs of stations, maybe procedural generated stations , some could include a large and open dockin pad for these...

but anyways, i personally dont see the point in owning a fed corvette... it seems too much big to be piloted by a lone player; I just hope frontier will not omiss to apply the crews feature into ED , so that any leastly moderate-sized ships will have a crew numbers to ensure they can be correctly managed.

in elite 2 the least, i remember the cobra was pretty much the maximum sized ship you could own that didnt required additional crewmembers... above the cobra, all ships started to require additional crew to ensure total management of the ships.

Nothing to suggest the Corvette will be bigger than the Anaconda. The P-Clipper is most certainly bigger, and will fit through the normal docking ports and fit on a large pad

That is disappointing, oh well I like the Clipper and Courier so I guess I'll grind faction for one of those.

I hope ship size doesn't discourage the devs from releasing bigger ships. I know a lot of people in the community have this unrealistic fixation with "realism" but who cares 1 person flying a gigantic ship is just awesome! Handle it similar to how EvE handled Titans. Or at lest have a few stations here and there in colonized space that builds the ships and the modules for them in some sort of dry dock. Outside of this you might have to be 100% sufficient, or at lest when you enter a system you hover close to the station while a AI drone of some sort flys out re-fuels and re-fits you.

On an unrelated note, GIVE ME THE PANTHER CLIPPER.

Definately, i've been waiting for it a long time already... From my calculations we might get it with Federal Corvette. The pattern here: 2 new ships every 2 months (each new patch release). Maybe we get it at end of summer

Imperials will eventually get probably the Imperial Cutter, which seems from some images I've seen similar size to Fed. Corvette.

Well remember that the Anaconda is rumoured to get the ability to dock a small Sidewinder-sized fighter, which would mean you'd probably be able to park your anaconda in the space around an outpost and simply go into the Sidewinder and dock with it, so you could potentially transfer ammo and fuel to the Anaconda through the smaller ship. It stands to reason the Federal Corvette, being bigger than the Anaconda, could potentially have the same ability, but with larger vessels (FDL plz). So if you need to dock somewhere you can simply park up your Fed Corvette inside the no fire zone, launch your docked craft and conduct your business through the smaller ship, then just re-dock with your Fed Corvette and go do what you want.

Even the Panther could get this ability if its big enough, sacrificing a huge cargo rack for a Medium ship docking bay, meaning it becomes more of a viable option to a larger demographic of players.

I was thinking more along the lines of drones since they are the hot topic in 1.3, although they could just make them both squeeze through like the T9.

The biggest problem with any ship that doesn't fit in the mailslot is that you won't be able to use the existing shipyard swap ship (unless they make an exterior landing pad).
I'd be up for the Panther Clipper to have a designated pad outside certain specific stations. In other words there are only a few select points where you can buy or store your P-C but you can interact with all the other stations via drones.

Not sure what will happen, It will be interesting either way.

I myself am a fan of only being able to park/swap ships of a certain size at certain locations, only a minority of players are going to be able to afford them. A nice trade off to the limited stageing areas is a larger jump range. Its more imersive in my opinion to do exploration from a gigantic expensive ship for the simple fact no one is going to do deep space exploration from a tiny little puddle jumper craft. Not realistic or practical
