I am wondering whether to turn back or not from my voyage to Sagittarius A. I have extensive canopy damage, but I'm less than 1,000 LY from the core. I'm guessing that jumping to a supermassive black hole system will cause further damage?
Can anyone who's been there confirm this please?

It won't cause further damage. If you are only 1000LY away you may as well carry on. The trip back will be a challenge

As long as you throttle your speed down to 0 during countdown of the hyperjump, you'll be fine. I say go for it and good luck!

Yeah, brave it dude. To be honest, as long as you are careful you should be fine. Just keep throttle down from jump countdown and you'll be fine.

What's the deal with throttling back when the jump countdown starts? Will you get propelled over the event horizon and destroy your ship when warping into Sagittarius A* if you don't?

Erimus had more damage when he got to the far side of the galaxy, and he got back home ok. That was 65 kylies!

kapparomeo, zero throttle on countdown means you arrive at a full stop in the distant system. Less chance to drift into a star, neutron star or black hole.

It is just one of those strange myths that has always stuck. You don't need to throttle back, many of us don't. If you do choose to throttle back, you can do it at any point, not just during the countdown. Throttle is enabled through the entire regime of the jump sequence.

Only time I have found throttling back to be necessary is when approaching neutron stars, whenever that happens I throttle back when coming out of hyperspace.

I usually hit zero throttle right as I come out of hyperspace but occasionally I get some lag coming into the system and end up a little closer to the star than I expected. Usually only an issue if it's a white dwarf or neutron star, though. It's probably better practice to hit zero throttle during the countdown or when you're in the witchspace tunnel.

But i sometimes fall asleep during the hyperjump..i nod off and awaken by the exit sound and look like, where am i..oh bright.. neutron..um..alarms..ohoh..too late emergency exit :p

So now standard for me is full throttle, countdown sequence starts and throttle back so i do not get in trouble far falling asleep :p

I second that, (on my system) there is about a half second delay after coming out of jump/hyperspace/witchspace/whatever before the ship responds to throttle or joystick commands, for me that's plenty of time to set the throttle to off if necessary, the rest of the time it's full speed ahead and damn the consequences.

I've left Sag A a few days ago and am heading back now with over 30kly under my belt and everything is still at 100%.

But as ever, whatever works for you is the correct way to do it (for you).

The main thing about zero throttle is that to get to Sag A* you have to jump inumerable times and it gets boring. Ooh look theres something shiny. Whats that smell of burning?

It's not a myth as you have alluded to yourself in your own comment.

It's a good tip for explorers and a good habit to get into if you are out there.
