Powerplay: Player counts as faction member?

A simple question, I don't think has been answered yet, maybe not even asked:

If a player pledges allegiance for a power that belongs to a major faction (e.g. Federation) and is killed without being wanted by the Federation - will the perpetrator also lose Federation reputation? And will the Federation-aligned player be shown as a Federation member just like any NPC would?

No - you can have multiple powers within a major faction, they aren't the major faction itself.

I understand that, but I also think this is a great opportunity being missed here. If someone were, for example, a member of Senator Patreus' power, they'd at least also be Empire-aligned. Causing attackers lose Empire reputation would be an extra deterrent against illegal attacks. And being shown to others as aligned with the Empire would be small but very nice way to show off your allegiance, too (just like we can do here on the forums). :)

I would imagine if you're part of the Patreus power you might show up as hostile or unfriendly to players belonging to some other powers, so you could infer them as "enemy" from that.

Ship decals for powers would be a nice touch, maybe even uniforms for the pilot models...

I'm curious what would happen to my standing with the Empire if, belonging to one Empire-aligned power, I shot down a player of a competing Empire-aligned power. My power might like that, the competing power would not, but what would the Empire overall make of it? Would it depend on the security state of the system the combat took place in?

Isn't Michael's point that Patreus' enemies might also be Empire aligned? They might be very strongly pro-Empire but still anti-Patreus. This is particularly relevant with the struggle for the throne.

Yup, this is probably it. I'm exepecting lots of backstabbing and infighting between powers, as well as between factions.
