Should I or not?? :)

Hey all

Really enjoying the game - its the sorta game were only plenty of time on it will let you enjoy it more as there is a nack to piloting etc.

My question really is - should I dust off my old M$ Sidewinder joystick or not?

flying games like these sometimes [well more often than not truly] suffer from over input and under input with joysticks - if you follow.
They can be "too quick turn you" or "too slow to turn you effectively" and more often than not the keyboard mouse combo is better.

with the joystick I would prefer to "yaw left/right" when using it instead of "roll left/right" but I'm wondering if it would be best to just not bother and stick with keyboard/mouse combo..

Im finding that no matter how I set it up in "settings" the "yawing left/right" just goes way too slow - is that simply because of the basic standards of the entry level ship? and better ships yaw faster?

Thanks in advance ^^^

This game was built with the H.O.T.A.S. in mind, particularly the saitek x52, 55 and the thrustmaster warthog, you can bind almost every key you need to these.

i played using my MS sidewinder precision pro for a good few months.

an excellent stick for elite, and what it lacked in buttons I made a custom profile and set up my xbox pad with it as well. the sidewinder combined with the xbox pad was a superb solution.

I have an X55 now and never looked back, but if you already have the old MS stick, you would be mad not to at least try it imo.

as for Yaw.... it impoves a little if you upgrade your thrusters, but ultimately yaw is slow by design. Not everyone likes it (I do) but it is deliberate. stick with it, many who knocked it at 1st are now converts :)

Yaw on all ships is fairly pedestrian, getting worse with the larger ships as you would expect.

Its a lot better with a joystick... Well, actually I've never played it without one so all i can say is its really good with a joystick. As for if you'll prefer it only you can say!

Ok will give it a try thanks all :)

No leave it under the bed of dust and buy an X52 or X52 pro,, Well worth the cost if you plan to play muchous

Those MS Sidewinder PROs were way ahead of their time. Microsoft made a lot of crummy hardware, but for whatever reason that stick is still tremendous. No, it doesn't have nearly enough buttons, but the build was made to take punishment and last. If you have one of the original series sticks, those have become collectors' items.
