Careers of the Milky Way!

So we know of the current existing career paths in the Milky Way, Bounty Hunter, Trader etc..

What about some future careers in the galaxy? this is just for some ideas for the future of the galaxy will call it the idea pot. Please add your ideas, or expand on the ones listed. :)

Possibilities:

1. Deep Space salvaging, Career aspect, salvaging derelict ships, stations, etc.. whatever is possible to salvage and sell for profits. Missions to find salvage, although when you get there, there may be pirates trying to take it all so decision time.

2. Search and rescue, Career aspect, Distress Beacon missions, also stranded CMDR's where you can literally take them out a new module to replace a damaged one via drone transfer or cargo drop if damaged can move and scoop. Black Box retrieval for explorers who have met an untimely death in the black so they can retrieve their data. Some sort of ability to tow a damaged ship.

3. Terraformer, (this would be for planetary landing expansion) Career aspect, find existing terraformable planets or discover new ones, have many phases of terraforming, can uses modules, or equipment for each phase. (Need some more input here as I am not savvy on the science).

4. Politician (ugh) lol, career aspect, be able govern a system as part of a minor faction that is allied with a major power. (Don't have much more for this one as I hate politicians.)

5.Space Engineer, Career aspect, have special parts/equipment which is used for repairing damaged capitol ships, stations, outposts, may lead to the construction of new stations, outposts via missions. Convert metals/minerals into useable equipment for the terraformers or others (minor crafting) works like a refinery but just combines the ingredients and forms the parts.

6. Ship Builder, I don't think will ever be a possibility but sticking it here anyways. ;)

7.S.T.A.R.T. Career Aspect, as a member of the System Threat and Response Team, one would receive random missions assigned via the Comm's panel that a system/station, convoy, etc.. is under attack from any type of threat, pirates, players, factions, aliens, etc... and must respond in a certain time frame and eliminate said threat, upon completion receive a nice reward, rep in the system, rank in S.T.A.R.T etc...

Have some more to add later but this is for starters, please feel free to add your ideas!!:)

More on topic - surely you've missed a career that we know is incoming.

Yea but, but, but Bus driver? sounds super exciting lol :p I'm thinking Orca's/Dolphin's are more of the PARTY bus type?

Deep space salvage would be pretty amazing. Particularly if combined with some minor exploration elements. I'd like to see older ships floating out deep in the black, prototype Asps perhaps, sleeper ships, old hulks, and eventually alien ships. You could be sent out to recover things or just information.

The political one could be interesting. Converting people to your party/group/faction via discussion and diplomacy could lead to some fun situations for the RP-heavy playerbase.

I've wondered why they haven't stuck in some kind of Police career. It would probably be quite similar to bounty hunting, but you might be asked to patrol a station or scan x amount of ships, or look for a specific suspect to confirm their identity, or visit Y amount of stations in Z amount of time to receive your wage.

Xenobiologist/Xenopaleontologist: Land on world that support/formerly supported life and use probes to gather data about them.

I agree deep space salvage would be amazing, could really add to the creepy factor of derelict ships. Police force pretty interesting idea, I imagine that would have to be kept in check or player on NPC only otherwise all we will hear about is the griefing committed by the player police, he pulled me over for no reason.. :D

I like most of your ideas! Maybe except terraforming and politician. Terraforming needs lots of T9s full of material. If I remember correctly, we had a CG for that?

Edible Poet

By Braben's Beard, you are so right!

@FrankusSupremus: you could be a space cop in the 1984 Elite. I figure they'll bring that back one of these days. As I remember it, it was the same as bounty hunting, but you had to stick to one system.

Salvage would be very cool, going out and recovering modules etc. from destroyed ships, or exploration data from dead explorers would be very cool. The problem with the latter is I don't think there's currently any persistence when the last player leaves an instance. So if you're alone in a system and die (collision, wear 'n' tear etc.) your wreckage is currently wiped, it's not left behind for you or anyone else to recover.

Some kind of passenger and/or ship ferry would be good too, it can be a chore keeping all my ships together.

I think Bus driver is in the works so i wonder if that would also be part of the setup, courier players from station to station?

I wonder if A Mercenary career is viable , similar to BH yet different maybe specifically dedicated to assassinations, sabotage of stations of opposing powers? blow up a ship while docked (NPC) other missions related to Merc work?

Bam™ that is for sure I would hire you right this second.

one of my major peeves..

When they let us walk around stations, I'm gonna be a hobo in a spacesuit stopping ships in the mailsot, wiping their canopies off with a dirty rag, then ask them if they want their canopy washed ( just like real life windshield washing hobos!)

Lmao just don't get space plowed ok???

here's one I found back in gamma :

Last Chance Services are actually the ruling faction, you can gain rep with them!
They have missions delivering bio waste (bodies??)
You can now become a space undertaker:D
Nice job ED, would be nice if they actually had unique missions for systems like this.
Maybe taking bodies to places of cultural importance (a star) and dumping them.. er sorry performing a burial in space.

On a somewhat related note, I have been wondering - what are the really cruddy jobs? What are the worst jobs? I feel like torturing my commander in an upcoming storyline... :D
