According to Google, this is another kind of black hole but even much more massive than Sadge... thanks for the tip, will make a stop there

If I remember right, the Annihilator is actually two black holes in the process of colliding and consuming one another.

They consume each other, what? The bigger hole sucks the smaller one in?

we'll find out in a couple million years. no one actually knows what will happen. The therois i've heard are either they turn into a SUPER supermassive BH or they both explode in a burst of Hawking radation.

I believe you can just search for "Great Annihilator" in the galaxy map - at least, that's what I did, so I'm now heading towards something... Hopefully not a particularly tough Thargoid who has that as a nickname. :D

I think you can find it just by searching for 'great' which saves having to spell annihilator correctly:eek:

<edit>
Yay my bumper sticker has arrived too, cheers ElectricZ. The envelope was a nice touch too, that can live in my Elite boxed set.

Sticker arrived lunch time today, in the outer reaches of Irish lands. Impressive speed, must have been an Imperial Courier. This one's going on my "ride". Next one maybe on the car.

Many thanks ElectricZ. You're Awesome.

Alrighty then! Without further ado... :D

The Good, The Bad and The Bucky: Highlights from the Buckyball Run

Massive thanks to everyone who helped out with footage or other assistance; special mentions have to go to...
  • Kligg for helping me capture the last little bits of footage I needed before I bombed off to A* the next morning
  • Rankaze for furnishing me with a wonderful variety of clips, many of which included his fantastic chuckling (seriously, it killed me to have to remove those audio tracks, I wanted to keep them in somehow but I couldn't find a way to make it fit)
  • Iron Lich, Ekol Tieja and Takaru Minari, for taking time out at the core to grab some video for me

Finally, as always, a huge thanks to ElectricZ and Bucky for continuing to organise and run these. Right on, CMDR. :)

What can I say but WOW! You seriously put effort in these things and it shows. Great choice of music and the editing is top notch. It's a shame there's not a lot of available video from earlier BBR's... I loved your Buckyball count in the corner. I also wish I could have contributed in some way... I had some excellent approaches in my Asp during BBR7 that would have fit right in to the first segment. :D Kudos, Alot! If you don't mind, I'd like to stick that on the main BBR site! And thanks for putting it together. :D

Here on Earth my daily commuter is a mere Adder, but its certainly looking a might bit spazzier now. Many kudos to ElectricZ!

P.S. The guy at my car wash says he used to clean starship canopies, but he didn't fit in there, too much of an overachiever.

All right, all right, all right! First Esvandiary's video, and now word that more bumper stickers have landed! Made my day. :D And, what's this? One is actually on an honest to goodness BUMPER. I never would have imagined... Bucky will be so proud. But of course, as Over as proven, the bumper sticker can go anywhere. CMDR's choice! Europe and North America down, South Africa and Asia to go. Who will be next? (dun dun DUN)

Got another stack going out this weekend for this weeks finishers! Keep your eyes on your mailboxes!

You're welcome to put it on the BBR site and wherever else you like! Hopefully this will spur certain people (no names, of course) into getting video recording going for future runs :D

I had good fun going round to all the previous race end points for the intro... Until I found that Frontier were highly disrespectful in their Beta-to-Gamma galactic reshuffle, because Skolem Settlement no longer exists! Anywhere! I even looked behind the sofa at Freeport! So I had to make do with some slightly shakycam footage courtesy of FoxTwo. :D
Also had fun roping Kligg into repeatedly firing a Sidewinder into supercruise until I managed to get myself into a half-decent position for the final shot... Hopefully the cameo is worth it. :p

To add a bit more brightness - my sticker also arrived today, intact and looking good (very classy job on the envelope too, I might add). I'm still deciding where it will be stuck...

Diamondback you say??

Pffft... I'm gonna buy it just to race it to Sag A* :p

Haha... Assuming its jump range is good enough to do it in one go (which I'd hope it is given its stated role!) maybe we should gather a bunch of CMDRs to do the Second Great Buckyball A* Convoy after 1.3 comes out :D

Count me in!!
Though I'm inclined to have a shorter race for the Diamond-Back Express.
Say to VY Canis Majoris... and back. Much like BBA* route plotting is up to the discretion of the individual commanders.
Just pic's of departure, arrival, and return... and there's noting saying the Start and Finish would have to be the same system.

Well, I've started my journey back home, though I'll be popping by the Great Annihilator on the way. Sounds like a lovely place.

Incidentally, my lucky streak finally ended - 21.5k light years of uninterrupted jumping without unscoopable-induced replotting have come to an end. Well, I had a good run.

Sheez - I go AFK for a couple of days and look what happens!

To be fair to Bucky, while he did agree to keep any better Cobra times than mine off the leaderboard in return for 20% of my exploration earnings on the Sag A run, he didn't say it would only be for a week. I knew in the back of my head I should have upped it to 40% for a more permanent "leaderboard malfunction". Ahh well, my bad... ::rolleyes:

Anyway, congrats and very well done Michey :) - its good to see the Cobra pilots getting in the thick of it. I'm almost inspired to try the run in my cobra again..... (almost.)

Cheers! I love my Cobra, it's like flying while lounging around in front of a coffee table, but I only want to make the one trip to the core in it. Certain more 'advanced' Commanders who seem to be eschewing sleep would be unbeatable. What are they on, anyway? That comet coffee I heard about? Orrerian Vicious Brew, even? Maybe some of that dance dust... yeah, how much is that? Oh right. OK. Where were we, bribery and corruption. You wouldn't do any of that really would you? Would you? 'Course not!

(How much do I get for scanning these Herbig things, Cartographics pay cred for this, yeah? We got to talk to some people. sssh.)

I scanned this a while back, I'm sure that's worth something but everyone tells me it's not an astronomical object..

Well, on my trip to the Great Annihilator, I found some rather interesting things:

wozxyoC.jpg
They might not be Primary Stars, but I still found this sight rather... intriguing. Well, 128% Heat later, I conclude that flying between them is:
a) possible
b) suicidal
c) does not give double the fuel scoop for scooping two stars at once. For shame.

Arriving at the Great Annihilator, I noticed two things - one, the jump point is very close to the Black Hole. Two, I heard you like gravitational lensing, so I put some gravitational lensing in your gravitational lensing so you can gravitationally lens while you gravitationally lens.

But what's the most worrying thing of all?

IT IS DONE :D

i am proudly claiming the last place on the leaderboard with 20 days, 6 hours, 51 minutes and 28 seconds
partly i underestimated the amount of dedication this would require, and partly just didnt really bother to see this as a race. thank you for giving me a reason to make this happen.

tomorrow, when my time is verified, i am going to dump my Asp into sadge and get on with my life as a bounty hunter :)

Is there any interesting location around Sadge, I don't want to łeave already
if your just after the scan cash you cant go far wrong going -1000,-1000, 24000 ish and heading back to sol via the neutron field that stretches to 17K,i scanned a hundred holes and then plotted back , there were too many.
if going a thousand light years sounds like its out of your way.. you've just come 26. so its nothing.. check it out on map with just non sequence selected. or see the pic below I posted earlier when the thread wasn't so long that it was being read. ;)

hey im not giving away all my crazy flying into station wall tips are you crazy.
nice transition at the end but.. I think you needed me to be in an asp. looking at the logo.. its the shipwrecked and comatose isn't it?
great vid.. but do not deviate gets all the win from my camp still. I still chuckle at the thought of Sammy davis shouting tunamage
