what happened to this equipment?

I believe I've seen it once in beta1(the exploration surveryor) and never saw it again, does anyone knows why FD removed such a beautiful utility?

No idea but I want it back.
Never seen that before as I didnt play the Beta, but that is way more interesting than the little spinning disk when scanning a planet.
Please FD, bring that back.

It seems a nicer version of the scanner. It can see that it scans the planet and completes it.

Maybe the downside was that you need to get eealllly close to the planet, which would take a lot longer.

But, yeah, it looks amazing!

I don't think it was ever in alpha or beta but was shown in the newsletters and supposed to be in the game at some point.

99% sure that was a mockup made by a user, it was nothing to do with FD. I'll see if I can dig up the post

No they were posted by one of the concept artists on his personal page and a couple were shown in an old newsletter

I remember reading a topic in the suggestion forum, someone made a hud mockup similar to that.

I'm not 100% on it being in a newsletter but I do remember another thread on this

I'm not an explorer but if it had mechanics like this (think mass effect scanners) I'd want to start
