Ships Lakon Diamondback, how much will it cost?

I am fairly certain that the Diamondback will be a small sized frame, roughly Viper/Vulture sized and have a hull cost of less then 5,000,000cr. Think long range less well armed and armored Vulture. It is a small reasonably priced multi-role ship will not much cargo space. To me this means one or two big internal bays, (Shield and Fuel), a single med sized internal bay for a fuel scoop or cargo rack and a few small internal bays for either combat or scanner modules. Two to four weapons of medium or small size and a few utility mounts, no more then four.

i really hope you're wrong :x

we need ships between ASP and Python, we already have plenty of small ships and big ships

Without knowing really anything about the ship stats, I'd guess this will probably be slightly less expensive than the Fed Dropship. I just don't see why they would put out another ship that is around a million credits. If anything I bet this will slot into the gap between the Asp (6 mil) and the Type 7 (17 mil), which is below the Fed Dropship at 19 mil.

would be great :) i also expect that

We need a longer range than a stripped Asp if we're going to keep following the white rabbit, looking for, "them." And if "they" are as terrifying as all the heavy handed hints, we're going to need shields and weapons to go with that long jump range. I'm hoping for a true 30+ ly jump range without having to sacrifice everything defensive.

In a previous newsletter its been stated that the Diamondback will be a combat explorer that is reasonably priced.

My guess is 15-30mil Cr range with jump range of up to 40ly (41-43ly with low fuel, no shields) one large hard point, 1 medium, 1 small( possibly 1 large, 2 medium, 1 small), and I'm not sure on the internals, too much guesswork there.

Reaonbly Priced Car equivalents are like an Adder or Cobra. Judging from the Canopy, it may be smaller than either of them too.

Reasonably Priced could mean anything really, it depends on what it can do and the size of it.

if it can load 300t, jump for 50Ly and carry 4 large, then a price of 100 millions seems very reasonable to me :p

Well, in the context of Top Gear, it's a standard car that's larger than the small cars (e.g. Ford Focus). This screams Adder more than Python - and the size of the canopy internal and external makes it seem much more towards that end.

We don't need another cheap ship so that seems unlikely. I'd like to think it's somewhere inbetween Asp and Type 7.

Yep, that's my wish also. 160T cargo, 4 x C2 hard points, 6 x utility points, strong shields maybe C6, same maneuverability as ASP, maybe a touch slower but faster with boost, large power plant again a C6, cost ~20mil. Not a fighter, but NOT something you want to poke with a stick.

I think its definitely more expensive than a sidewinder and cheaper than a space station- I mainly get that from the size of the chair.
It also has places to put things on it. Some of them for shooting and some for doing other stuff. Call me a speculator but it could also be better at something than another ship and worse at something than yet another ship.

You're all wrong. It will be 10x the price of the anaconda. Because it's entire back is made out of diamonds.

I don't see any indrustrial station going crazy over diamonds, so I assume the whole crazy about them is over by 3300 and they are finally the valueless stone they deserve to be.

As one of the hardest substances we know, I don't think diamonds will ever be 'valueless'. Also, people like pretty things and diamonds are pretty. IMHO, there are other, prettier stones, but that doesn't mean diamonds aren't pretty.

Would I be crazy in saying 5 million, the same as an Asp- the trade off being less cargo space but more room for boom with slightly poorer range?

And Diamondback CMDRs will have these on the canopy:

Hardness alone doesn't necessarily equal to an endless amount of usefulness, which is why diamonds are only used in order to create or augment cutting, drilling and polishing tools. Their only other function is being sparkly, because despite having ridiculously good optical values, we can't use them, since diamonds can't be processed in any other way other than shaping by removing material. Do you have a diamond that is 1 cm thick? You can't create anything bigger than that.

And all of their industrial value can be achieved with synthetic diamonds which we can already easily create or just pressured water jets for precision cutting.

Even in the current era, diamonds being pretty is the only thing they have going for them.

It doesn't look like a big ship to me, it appears to be considerably smaller than Asp. Price? My (wild) guess is 1-2 millions. It will be able to jump further than Cobra while packing the same punch (and load much less cargo), and that's it.

My other guess is that we're going to wait for some highly specialized, big, top-of-the-line explorer for quite some time, probably until the planetary landing expansion.

Sources tell me that the Alliance version, that is being currently produced, will be made primarily out of Indium, Berrylium and Gold. So I expect it to be rather expensive.

It will also come with a pre-installed, top quality water purifier.

Diamondback CG now on in Wolf 406

Hamilton Station in Wolf 406 are building Diamondbacks and have a CG running right now to get metals for its manufacture. I believe the reward is a discount on the purchase of this new ship.
Come aid them if you are interested.

CMDR Varrag, if there is a CG running to get a discount, I doubt it will be that cheap. The FDL is not that big either. Lands on medium pads, in fact!
