Ships The Diamondback is Forthcoming - Time to be EXCITED!?

Well, lets see... Eagle: light fighter/patrol fighter, check! Viper: intercepter, check! Vulture: Space superiority/attack fighter, check! Fer de Lance: heavy fighter, check! So my guess the diamondback is our long range fighter (vanguard *cough..cough*) Would also like to see a "bomber" class combatant, as we are getting our very heavy Federal Corvette... eventually!

I can dig that. Through i heard that lakon said it'd be cheap so maybe around T6 price to maybe a Vultures price?

From the pics it has that very ugly distinctive Lakon cockpit, I can only hope the rest of the specs make it somewhat more interesting compared to the Asp for example... We'll see but i won't hold my breath.

My hopes are all on the imperial courier, but here too, it's all 'hope' for now.

It's about 10 days later now. Newsletter #75 is due out today at some time (right?). Can we expect some sweet, sweet statistics on this new snake? Also. Why the hate on Lakon? They make the Asp, with its gloriously bulbous and open, SEE ALL THE THINGS! cockpit... I mean yeah, it sucks that it has the Type 6's big honking blue "LAKON" text right over the radar, but it still looks pretty nice and open above.

Maybe its cockpit shadows will actually work and be nice for me, unlike the Asp's. Though honestly, the ship's probably somewhere between the Adder and the Asp, so in other words, useless to me. =(

I imagiine it is similar to an Asp with less bays and more hardpoints, right? Combat/Explorer instead of Cargo/Explorer.

I know its the same company, and so a certain design style consistency is to be expected.... but it looks like FD are going to use exactly the same dashboard from all the other lacons.

I really hope that is not the case and they jazz it up a bit. , the T6, T7 and the asp (I cant remember the T9 for certain but I have a feeling that was the same too) do not offer enough individual character between dashboards imo.

I love the concept art, but I really hope it will be on the 20-30M Cr mark and not sub 10M cr. Something between the vulture and the Python in terms a armaments. But it's suppose to be "affordable".

This is a ship I will buy instantly when it is released. I love combat, but I also want to go on a long haul trip to Sagittarius A. This gives me the ability to (hopefully) fight off anyone that comes along, and get to my destination in a reasonable amount of time. Sold!

Eyes get tired when you have to stare at the distance between you and a trading ship to make sure they throttled down or have to line up rail guns against their drives... I can use a break.

Give me a star to stare at for a change.

Still, why would they release this with the I.Courier? People are going to make comparison and there's some huge distinction in aesthetics here...

I've thought a LOT about this ship. Here are my predictions/realistic hopes for the Diamondback:

-30.000.000+ Cr. price-tag.
-40-45Ly max jump range, 28-32Ly range with weapons equipped.
-4 Medium weapon mounts and 1 Large mount. Or, 2 Med. and 2 Lrg.
-4 Utility slots.
-5-6 Internals slots.
-...
...I'll add more as I think of them.

I think that releasing The Diamondback alongside the Imperial Courier is actually a super good thing. The fans of shiny, sleek, Star Trek looking ships can monk it over the IC, whilst the rest of us
(with souls) can pine for the DB. I like threads arguing about which ship looks better. They are always so fun and lighthearted. We need more of that in the forums.

Hopefully I can afford it with all the bounty hunting I've been doing in my viper. Then once I have enough from exploration I'll buy a vulture as my main cg hunter assuming the diamondback doesn't have godly hard points or better shields.
