it's a very small and very inexact preview of what space traveling will be

Well for me it's space trading game with WW2 dogfights in space game.

For me it's boring as hell. I started in sidey missions, then hauler shieldless mining, cobra mining now with shields yay! T6 shieldless -> trade grind grind grind - crash lol -> T7 shieldles grind grind grind grind crash grind - T9 shieldless grind grind grind grind.... grind -> Anaconda - trade setup - grind - quit.

I found out that i can't make much more credits with conda than T9.

I was hoping for this:
anaconda -> huge cash flow grind - money - more money - insane amount of money -> buy 2 cobras, 1 asp, 1 python, with insane amount of cash fit asp for exploring, python for BH, cobras for mining and piracy in anarchy, keep anaconda docked in case i need more money (i hoped conda would bring me more money that i could spend), so i could just fly around explore and not worry about crashing conda somewhere and lose like lot of credits due to buy back so i quit because i didn't had enough money to enjoy game without worrying too much.

You are free to roam the world and change it at will.
Guess what do you call that?

Open universe play? Still not sandbox. Change what exactly? I can't even scratch station paintjob. Prices move insanely like +-0.1%. You want to build a new station yourself? Nope! Change major faction? Well nope and yes since it's manually controlled by FD and it have absolutely no effect on system, it's just different text. What next? Ah yes reputation with system that is really useful because it change welcome message to station! That was completely worth it!

After killin 999 999 999 pirate ships, there are still infinite pirates left, after killing 999 999 999 system authority ships there are still infinite ships left. So you keep saying word change, i don't think you know that word means.

Every game ends up boring, it just depends on the individual on how long that lasts. I still have much to do in ED, so at the moment my interest is still there.

ED is as boring as the limit of your imagination and motivation

What kind of stupid comment is this? My imagination is really great and i can imagine lot of scenarios, possible outcomes, routines, but you know what? I use my imagination when i don't have access to anything! I can imagine whole space wars, space trading adventure and i don't need even electricity to do that, but that's not why i bough ED for.

You keep using word sandbox with ED. Sandbox games: minecraft, terraria, factorio, space engineers, planet explorers, seed of andromeda, cube world, the forest, rust, starbound, limit theory?, kerbal space program, star made, eve, the sims, garrys mod, don't starve.

Let's see what we have here half a year after release:
- FD's business model to "cash-in" several times on several platforms before the game reaches a satisfactory level and true to the words promised (I wish we had monthly subscription to give FD the revenue to put their time in developing the game rather than using their coding potential to port it over to several other platforms unfinished to cash in more while the net value of the game development remains very low)
- we don't have a working economy still, nor persistent universe. So literally there's no game in ED but an exhibition of stars and stations I can fly between in any order.
- the forums are loud of the same issues we experienced on Day1. Some quantities have been changed, qualities not really.

I'm really looking forward to 1.3 and see what FD calls "major" in content update. Depending on that I can start playing again or writing the funeral oration of ED.

Agreed, i don't like this concrete floor being called sandbox, i really hope powerplay will be the first sand in the sandbox.

I crave a good space game and limit theory might be it (market is interresting! Market trade in LT is based on what NPCs actually mined/produced, so it's more like WoW auction house):

Maybe research your examples a little better? Try finding another space game that is actually released right now and compare it......

I'm interested in this too, and also rather worried. My concern is Powerplay may not change what people are doing or more importantly offer them anything else to do. For example, Traders will continue to trade Gold between two locations for seemingly no economic reason. And Bounty Hunters will continue to go to mindless RES zones to help Wanteds commit suicide for no reason.

Worse still, Powerplay may simply orchestrate and reward this same old behaviour by now having communal graphs (leader boards) such that the Power/Faction with the CMDRs doing the most *grinding* gets the highest graphs so get some outcome in their favour.

I'm hoping Powerplay brings in some missions/gameplay elements that actually show/add some depth & interest, but from what I've read about it so far, I don't believe there will be - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=140233

Hopefully I'm wrong and for example there will be far more interesting missions in V1.3...

I plaid late beta onwards up to and around late January, I was really into it. I explored, I mined, I traded, I hunted and generally had a great time. I can say honestly, I have more than had my monies worth many times over. I did pop back in after wings, but nothing grabbed me there. I will pop back and try 1.03.
I hear people say "maybe this game isn't for me". They are wrong, this game is so me, but it is in no way on earth a finished product. The evidence is in the sub add ons. If this was a finished product, these add ons would be pay for dlc. The fact they are not is proof enough.
Too many things are broken for me.
trading does not feel right, the rewards do not balance for the time invested.
Mining, same deal.
Missions feel empty and unimaginative, with around 5 core types and no variety.
So as it stands, there isn't much attracting me back.
I really do hope the dev's inject some life into Elite, it has so much potential and could be awesome. As it stands, its worse than work, too much graft for too little pay.

Honestly I've read the same whine for every open-ended game out there. It's quite simply because you're playing to win the game.

That's not really you're fault, I mean, that's what vast majority of games are about. An endgame. A goal. The game tells you what to do, and you go and do it. Games like this don't work like that and require a slightly different approach.

Best advice I can give is play less. Not quit, just don't see the point of the game as being an epic tale of your deeds culminating in galactic domination. Pick it up for half an hour and do a trade run, then do something else. Log in and fight in a RES for an hour, then watch some TV. Don't think of the goal as having the biggest ship (because you're invariably go back to the smaller ships after a while as they're simply more fun) but to go and do 'something' for a bit. My last goal was to bleed Diso dry of corn to get millions of creds an hour. I'm about to use that money to rebuy an Eagle and kit it out nicely (and cheap at the same time) to do the bounty hunting/combat community goals. I won't be steamrolling everything, but where's the fun in that?

X3TC/AP patched up and with mission mods. This will be the game I will play until something better comes out (LT, SC, No man's sky or whatever).
I will not miss the 400 billions same looking systems with the same looking balls in space. The real player interaction will be missed a little, but I will just use my imagination while I build a proper sand castle in space.

Have fun, then.

Best advice I can give is play less.

I've been forced to do this because I haven't got an internet connection for a few weeks. So I've been having this urge to play ED. Did play for an hour after I finally
got my connection. I got bored.
Now, I'm looking at my X-55 HOTAS, feeling not an urge, but an obligation to login. But I quickly starting to think "Why?". Why do I need to login? What's in there for me and why do I need to do it?
I haven't played for a week now.

The less I play, the less I feel the urge to play. It's not my fault, nor FD's.
This game isn't for me.
Simple as that.

To paraphrase a Star Wars quote, this is not the Elite IV I was looking for.
I play a little each day. I mainly trade, fly here, buy this, fly there, sell that, fly back to the other station, buy this ...
I find it so tedious, I can only do one or two trips before I need a break.
I am holding on to the faith that one day, in the future, before I either die or am not able to play any more ... Frontier actually make the game I was pushing them to make before the kickstarter

If/When it ever comes out, with the last communication from the developer being 4 MONTHS ago!
So ... Michael doesn't count?
