Elite boring?

I too had high hopes for ED, but they arose from checking out hours of gameplay youtube clips and determining this game was very much for me. As a result, what the game delivered was rather close to what I expected.
Snap. Was watching all the youtube clips months before release, I had pre-ordered so I came into ED with eyes open. It is what I expected and I am not disappointed. I have been playing since launch and I still have a plethora of things to do, and that is before 1.3 comes out. I am out in the void exploring. Boring...no, infinite variety. It just depends on expectations.

The game sorely needs Powerplay.

.. a week's delay, damn that's annoying. I was rather hoping to be playing the beta whilst waiting for money to buy Witcher 3.

Patches will now take three times as long for Xbone and the 7 Mac players.

I'm interested in this too, and also rather worried. My concern is Powerplay may not change what people are doing or more importantly offer them anything else to do. For example, Traders will continue to trade Gold between two locations for seemingly no economic reason. And Bounty Hunters will continue to go to mindless RES zones to help Wanteds commit suicide for no reason.

Worse still, Powerplay may simply orchestrate and reward this same old behaviour by now having communal graphs (leader boards) such that the Power/Faction with the CMDRs doing the most *grinding* gets the highest graphs so get some outcome in their favour.

I'm hoping Powerplay brings in some missions/gameplay elements that actually show/add some depth & interest, but from what I've read about it so far, I don't believe there will be - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=140233

Hopefully I'm wrong and for example there will be far more interesting missions in V1.3...

Yes these thought have turned over in my mind too.
What I see there though as a chance to remove the economy model from the grounds of meaningless commodities and replant it to a political fundament where it can be more dynamic and more responsive to player actions. (Let's face it, the commodity market is just an impotent show with no effect on anything in ED universe. Instead of palladium or biowaste we could write "butterfly wing" or "shade of grey" with no different outcome. I'm mostly a trader and I need to use only muscle memory to scroll down all the meaningless walls of text on the market board until I reach a certain NUMBER I'm looking for... and same at selling.)

So if 1.3 will be built around a more dynamic field where the true interaction between players and the universe can consistently grow up, it can be a success. I would say: the only way to make ED successful and future-proof.
It's like reducing the unnecessarily big universe to a small but dynamic one where the game itself can begin and expand if the model works alright.
Of course these are just my thought contaminated by my expectations so the "we'll see" sign is put on.

I have been finding Elite Dangerous boring. But that could be me. What was I expecting? I don't go too book shops, pick a page, read that page and repeat until I decide if I want to read it just as I don't watch YouTube video's of a game showing the best bits before I decide to purchase. Shouldn't have to. But I also shouldn't expect my expectations to be fulfilled if I based them on colourful vids and trailers. I bought in at Premium Beta over a year ago and enjoyed it but after Beta 1.6 started to feel it was empty and that it was too big for too little. But added to that I think of why I wanted to play in the first place. It's because I was looking up a remake of the original, as my use for a PC was to record music, so I got hold of 'Oolite' which was a great remake of Elite.

I was 15 when I played Elite on the BBC. 46 now. When I played then there was a lot of 'not much going on' but I had all the imagination to fill in the gaps.

Is this game boring? To me at the moment, yes. But that could be me.

Open universe play? Still not sandbox. Change what exactly? I can't even scratch station paintjob. Prices move insanely like +-0.1%. You want to build a new station yourself? Nope! Change major faction? Well nope and yes since it's manually controlled by FD and it have absolutely no effect on system, it's just different text. What next? Ah yes reputation with system that is really useful because it change welcome message to station! That was completely worth it!

After killin 999 999 999 pirate ships, there are still infinite pirates left, after killing 999 999 999 system authority ships there are still infinite ships left. So you keep saying word change, i don't think you know that word means.

I think you had high or wrong expectations.
This might be just the foundation, but the sandbox elements are there.

Those are features that you want, not base features that make a sandbox.
You can't expect them in an unfinished game and no one said ED is the epitome of sandbox gaming.

You are, at the moment, testing out ships.
If you need more and can't wait, I suggest EVE. I'll take you on a null space tour.

ED is a theme park without rides.
A sandbox without sand.
A trading game without economy.
An arcade shooter game without challenging AI.
A ship upgrade game without much to upgrade.

To paraphrase a Star Wars quote, this is not the Elite IV I was looking for.
I play a little each day. I mainly trade, fly here, buy this, fly there, sell that, fly back to the other station, buy this ...
I find it so tedious, I can only do one or two trips before I need a break.
I am holding on to the faith that one day, in the future, before I either die or am not able to play any more ... Frontier actually make the game I was pushing them to make before the kickstarter

So ... Michael doesn't count?

What?
Who?
Have I missed something?
Josh Parnell is the only developer on Limit Theory?

My apologies, I read your post "the last communition from the developer was 4 months ago" and it being on the Frontier forums, and in a thread about Elite being boring (and not a thread about Limit Theory) and put 2+2+2 together and came up with 1337.

Seems like it. Maybe there are more, i don't know. I didn't backed game and i didn't really watched it progress, except for some devblog videos.

There are more promising space games for me: Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen, Limit Theory, Pulsar: Lost Colony, Rodina (sorted from my highest hopes to probably not worth anyone's time).

I do like this description, though I would personally say it's a sandbox game without a bucket and spade or even hands, though the sand is darn pretty to look at...

More like you have the tools but someone filled sandbox with concrete instead of sand. I sank way too much time into ED, but i wait for some updates to come back and enjoy solitude in space once more. Nice to see people in open but sad to see bad ones in open too. Never seen anyone but i never been in Lave either, or at community event.

Your anaolgy works well too! :)

Yeah I got my money's worth out of Elite for a few months but after trading in my Type 9 for a few weeks I lost all interest. I would really like to see some features added that will drag me back in as I have the money to do some great things in the game if they give us the tools for emergent gameplay, though unfortunately I can't see that happening until after Star Citizen is released; and then it will be too late. :(

It's like raaaaaaain on your wedding day
It's a free ride when you've already paid
It's the good advice that you just didn't take
Who would've thought... it figures

If you don't like "repeater" games or you get bored fast with games like diablo then you gonna have a boring time on this game (at least right now) because at this point you have only one objective and that is earn gold to buy things. Exploration is fun but i think you will get bored anyways when you already saw enough black holes, neutron stars, etc.

I mean, Elite Dangerous it isn't a bad game but still needs a lot of content. Right now is pretty empty, it has a lot of systems but it lacks on things to do. I hope Power Play fix that ^^
