Elite boring?

I hope FD take a few lessons from modern MMo's . Some of the innovations implemented in games now would address some of the issues. Namely , meeting NPC's in space and interacting with them . For example the NPC offering you a mission to find something or take out a pirate ect leading to a storyline. All been said before but it is just obvious. Salvage something that gives you a storyline of missions searching for something giving you a reason to explore certain areas. Maybe the unidentified object recently is a start to that .

I guess FD have thought of this stuff , if they haven't they are missing a trick.

Salvage is one of my top things I'd like to see introduced to the game.

The thought of finding a derelict ship, EVA floating across and having a good root about for goodies sends a shiver down my spine.

I'm sure we all remember the video from the Kickstarter with a Viper slinking alongside an Anaconda clearly looking for salvage and then getting a massive rocket up the backside! It looked cool and it added depth.

Here it is, it's even called Scavenger Hunt:

I've been playing the game for a week, it seems there's nothing to do except farm.
Either by fighting random wanted enemies or by trading:

Trade rout: Trade > earn enough to upgrade > buy a ship with more storage > repeat

Fight rout: kill wanted targets > upgrade modules / ship > kill wanted targets > repeat

There's really no sense of progress except farming money.

There's no real exploration, nothing new to do...

(quoted just to rember what this thread was about 4 months ago o_O)

90% of game industry's products is just about that formula. The other 10% are a well camouflaged version of the same forumula.

To anyone who is complaining of being bored because they did lots of grinding, got lots of money and have nowhere to go.

Take a step back - and take a look at your life.

That's Western civilisation in a nutshell.

Chasing money for bigger and better things with no real thought. Not enjoying the moment - seeing it as a grind to get something... something... that turns out to be empty.

Just a suggestion - do it another way. Clear your save - start again. Do it another way.

One alternative: There is no official iron-man but doesn't mean you can't play like there is.

Bored in less than a week? Like others have said, this game is what you make of it.

Honestly it sounds like this game is not the type of game for you. Space sims are not everybodyies cup of tea.

I find that hard to believe since I didn't have any in Feb. I only had done some backyard exploring to see what's what.

And I didn't judge those who went into the far reaches of the galaxy as "special persons" since I didn't know what I was talking about.

You had 10 objects to your name if you use the same handle in the game as on here, are you certain there is something I missed in my 10+ hours of exploring in E:D? Sure I didn't find any black holes, but from the videos I have seen they are just more meta data with fancy screen effects. I wil admit my 'special' comment was a little harsh, afterall I used to A-B-A trade for hours each day which some would consider 'Special' behaviour... But I fail to see how exploring can be entertaining myself, maybe my colour-blindness is stopping me appreciate the different colour of the spheres?

Oh and the original point that I was defending is that you can already see the stars from the Star map, that surely takes away from the excitement of exploration?

No offence but that sounds like a developer excuse for having no content.... just saying. Its akin to giving a child a stick for a present and telling them to use their imagination.. Some good times can be had but in the end it's still only a stick. The stick is a gift, the child didn't pay £100 for a stick, even one so pretty.

Why? By that logic you render the exploration motives of a whole civilization pointless.
We went to the moon, while we've been looking at the darn thing for ages.
If you have seen Mount Everest, it doesn't mean you've climbed it.

They need to fix the mission system asap, last night I spend almost 4 hours trying to do the "kill the traders" mission. Ive never been so frustrated in all my gaming life (had to kill every ship on the uss getting a huge bounty on my head, and after 2 and a half hours when I have 2/3 targets killed with only 30 min remaining.... I got a counteroffer and the count reset to 3...OMG, what the hell??? Is this game a huge troll joke?). The game is pretty, have a amazing soundtrack and effects, but its a mess in every other aspect.

I see what you are saying, if we think about it from a video game point of view; the experience of climbing the virtual Mount Everest would be for the view from the top? There is no view from the top in E: D.

Do you think people climb Mount Everest because of the nice view? ;)

Isnt all view in ED from the top? Since we can't land on planets, top is all we got.

Now this is just deteriorating into silly semantics now! ;)

Edit; just realised a flaw in my thinking, the view from the top is the changing perspective of the sky box! is that what people explore to see?

Well, I played Elite on C64. One of my fist PC game was X-Wing. I played it though like 5x. Same for TIE fighter. I still have my original boxed copy of WC3 (6CDs :D) and Privateer 2. Played the Privateer games through and through. WC Armada check. Freespace 1-2 check. IWar 1-2 check. Elite 2-3 checked. X1-2-3 check. Freelancer check. X-Com Interceptor :D check. St Bridge Commander check. Kerbal Space Program check. ST Online check. I know I missed WC4. I plan to finish it one day.

Yeah I think space sims are not my cup of tea and my imagination is just too weak to handle this game.

I do agree the game is pretty. The sounds are functional at best. The music is boring. I do what I did back in the C64 days. Play rock music from tape, OK MP3 now, but it has the same result.

I would not say boring, but it needs more variety and content, be it in missions, station designs and a more lively universe.

:) I was just messing about. More seriously, there's stuff to see in the game that doesn't require scanning til your thumbs fall off. Go see Sagittarius A, or nebulas, or small black holes, and ignore the scan tedium.
